Genuinely curious if anyone has had the chance to own an African Angelfish or any experience with them at all. I haven't been able to see or find much information on them in the forum or on google. Most places say it's a rarity. If anyone could guide me to a thread or website or has their own feedback on it. Thank you.

Back about 25 years ago, there was a guy in NY who made regular imports from Ghana. I got sone of these from him, as well as other endemic species for a public aquarium exhibit.

Care wise, they are similar to queen angels.
I found the biggest drawback is they lose color at such a young age. The one in your second picture is in the wild, in captivity that fish wouldn’t look as golden, more gray/brown.

I still see these on lists once in awhile, but there are a lot of scammers in the area that take the importer’s money and don’t send fish, so finding a trustworthy exporter is tough.
