New reefer here. Tank is about 60 days old. I've only got a few posts here, so you can see my new member post and get a little history of what I've done.

Basically, I fought a very slight bloom about a month ago. Never did a water before because I wanted it cycled and all bacteria to really bake in. Fast forward to a couple of days ago and I started to see a very slight haze...so I said, ok it's about time I do my first water change.

It's an Aquatop 40 cube and I did about 8-10 gallons, so let's say a solid 20%.

Two days later and the bloom has exploded...lts a good 30-40% worse than the pics...

What gives!? First time a month ago I added a little clarity and it helped and then once I changed to a filter floss + 50micron polishing sheet it really cleared up perfectly. But now this is beyond my comprehension...

My KH/pH has been on the lower end of the spectrum, very low actually, but it's been low since the beginning and barely rose after the water change.

Salinity is .25, and I'm at 0, 0, 20nitrate...

Several frags added weeks ago, have always had a lot of fish (9 in total) and a very decent cuc. Oddly enough corals are all booming right now and from what I can barely see the fish are all behaving. I only feed once in the morning.

ATO is working well enough. No protein skimmer. I am using that plastic skimmer piece so I can have an elevated water line, but I took Dremel and made the teeth a little longer so it wasn't too high. I have the InTank additions for the filter floss + the 3 bay tray where I have bio > purigen > chemi pure elite then that spills over into the baskets that come with the tank where I just have the very bottom basket filled with seachem matrix for good measure.

Jebao wave maker making alot of waves...

Help!?

Salinity is at 0.25 meaning 1.025 or 25 ppt?

One thing I would recommend, especially if that's a bacterial bloom, make sure you're aerating. Bacterial blooms can strip DO (dissolved oxygen) from the water which makes it hard for the fish to breathe.

Yes, 1.025/26

I took the glass top off this afternoon, because just looking at it made me want to let it breath a little more. But the wave maker is on a randomized pattern, getting as high as 80% so there is plenty of turbulence.

Air stone will help even more than just agitation alone.

oxygen i would say is definitely a good move
this has happened to me before, a Uv sterilizer on completely fixed the problem

Does the UV sterilizer kill both good and bad bacteria? Should I just do a hang on and use it when I need it?

FYI I put the lid back on because my red ruby dragon jumped out AGAIN. BOTH times he's landed in the rear chamber and both times rescued. Whewww..

I suspect he's eating the pods on the back wall since it's littered with some old diatoms and I'm not sure he's jumping. I think he's literally crawling out the back part. So strange. But glad hes okay!

I cleaned some stuff, and changed the configuration of my media, then changed the polishing pad 3x before bed and the water did clear up maybe 10-15%...

Guess I can't do much but monitor and wait it out. Just hate the way it looks...

it will kill near everything going through it, you’ll have enough bacteria in your rock and sand to compensate
but whatever time you feel the bloom is worst at just run Uv then for a couple hours periodically

I feel like it's getting worse...and the filter floss isn't even getting as dirty as quickly as it usually gets. The polishing pad is picking up and getting properly dirty but I don't know...just strange.

Getting a submersible UV tomorrow to see if it helps move it along a little quicker.

keep us posted when you get the sterilizer
could do before and after pictures to document progress for anyone else with this problem in the future
(i’m no smart bio dude) just that recommendation was purely from experience with very similar issue
