Hi all, I’m after some help and advice please. I’m in the process of getting everything needed to set up my tank and should have everything by this weekend. The issue I’m having is how my tank will cycle without live rock or sand being used?

Should a use some bacteria booster, or Red Sea pro reef mature kit. I’m keen to have a cycle instead of using atn colony and introducing fish straight away, what’s people’s thoughts and how can I do this.

Thanks in advance

Ok if I'm understanding you correctly. You are not using live rock or sand but all dry? Or you actually are not using any rock or sand at all? In which case you need some form surface area for the bacteria to grow.

If its dry rock and sand. You could go to a local LFS and ask for something in the tanks to seed your tank. Mine do it for free or at best charge $5 for a rock frag.

Or yes you can do a bottle of bacteria.

I'd start here although other options for bacterial products that might bring quicker results depending on timing being Fritz Turbo.

Might start with the uglies and why these days I cycle in the dark with glass walls covered with tape as well as placing cardboard over the top while allowing some gas exchange. CUC will shorten the ugly phase for some and for some avoid it but I just assume it's part of maturing and glad eventually got passed the pimple stage and this will too.
