I'm looking to buy either a WaveEngine + Kraken or preferably just a Kraken as it should meet my needs for 12v and 24v inputs. I haven't seen any discussion on if there is any functionality difference between the two. Can the Kraken provide direct drive variable flow to 24v powerheads the same way that the WaveEngine does? I will be controlling a Reef Octopus Varios 4 as well as a couple of return pumps (two Jebao SLW-30 are what I have right now but they are kind of loud, I would upgrade to a gyre, 2 octo pulses, or MP10).

I already have a Hydros Launch so i am invested in their ecosystem.

Thanks for any insight.

I don't believe that Force ports work the same as the Direct Drive. It's technically a different port - Force instead of Pump Output.

The KRAKEN and WaveEngine are totally different products.

The FORCE Ports (RED) on a KRAKEN provide 24v DC Power. This replaces up to 8x of those black power brick under your tank....as long as they are 24v DC, and less than 8amps. The DRIVE Ports (ORANGE) provide power to 12v DC Devices, eliminating 4 plugs.

WaveEngine is a pump controller, and you can plug many brand pumps into it via Pump WAVE Ports (Yellow).

A KRAKEN + a WaveEngine, the KRAKEN would supply direct 24v power to the WaveEngine, eliminating the WaveEngine Power Supply. It would also waterproof the power supply.

Using your Reef Octopus VarioS 4 as an example, you would have 4 options w/ HYDROS.

1) Power via standard wall outlet, control via 0-10v OUT Port on a WaveEnginev2 or Control X4. No POWER coming from HYDROS, just 0-10v Control.

2) Power and Control via a WaveEngine Port. Eliminates Power Supply from VarioS, full controllablility via HYDROS with ultra customization.

3) Power Via KRAKEN, Eliminate VarioS PSU, battery backup, Control via Reef Octopus pump controller. We can still program the KRAKEN Force Port to turn off in say Water Change Mode.

4) KRAKEN + WaveEngine, KRAKEN supplies power to WaveEngine, provides battery backup to all the pumps on the WaveEngine.

Thank you both for the answers, I guess it was wishful thinking that the Kraken 24v ports can provide the same level of control that the WaveEngine does lol.

The Wave Engine direct drive ports are for driving a BLDC type motor and that requires pulses of power in a sequence that depends on which direction you want it to go and how fast you want it to run. This is also dependent on the particular motor you have hooked up to it also. So when setting the port up on the Wave Engine you will need to select which brand and model of pump you are hooking up to the port. The Kraken force port is a constant 24v DC output that you can turn on or off.
