I Received a NEW Trident NP Nitrate & Phosphate Tester!!!!

Ballpark. I don't need 0.1 to equal 0.1. But if one reads 0.10 and the other reads 0, then there is some concern as those numbers can have vastly different results in coral health.

All good, I'm trying to get an expectation is all. One more question if you will. What model of Hanna tester(s) are you using? I read Hanna so assuming it is for both Phosphate and Nitrate. They have low range, high range, HIxxx, etc.

My nitrate is in the 30-40 range with phosphate in the .3-.4. No issues here yet with the Trident NP. Both match the Hanna within the margin of error. I’m using the Nitrate High Range and the HI96713C phosphate low range

What is so bad about the waste solution that it can’t just be poured down the drain? I don’t have room for a 1 gallon container to store it so I need to figure that out.

Can the waste container size be adjusted in settings?

There is a reason for it but it is escaping me at the moment. It needs to be neutralized before disposal. That is why there is no drain option like the original.

Yes, it can. In the NP's configuration UI you can set it.

Also forgot note if you are not aware but regarding the waste container find one that is marked HDPE (hide density polyethylene). Pretty sure the instructions will spell this out but if you want to find one that fits your size needs you can start looking now.

I use an old ESV 2 part gallon jug.

So the take away here is that the waste generated by the np is acidic and can cause issues when sitting in a sink or drain.

If you have an older house with metal drain pipes, you'll probably want to steer clear of draining directly into a drain. Modern houses use abs for drains and can handle the acidity.

But another big concern would be the chrome/brass drains at the bottom of sinks, they will definitely get damaged by acid.

There's other concerns as well, what would the acidic waste do when it interacts with the scum inside the drain? What sort of harmful fumes could it produce?

The bottom line is that most hobbyists are ignorant to certain chemical reactions, and it's better for a company to hedge their bets and err on the side of caution to avoid any liability.

If you decide to go directly down the drain, just understand the risks.

After just reading through the SDS on the reagents I came to the same conclusion. Everything is considered mildly acidic. I'll stick with dumping it down the drain followed by some lime mix if I'm really worried about it. Or I'll dump it in the toilet and flush it.

That is if I even set the thing up.

So Apparently I am one of the lucky few to randomly get selected as a "thank you" for being a loyal customer!!
I literally have NO other information other than that. I received an E-Mail from their Marketing Specialist Kyle Thomas, and confirmed with Sales Manager Tom Dachille.

I cant hook up the unit until the new firmware is released on May 30th, So expect an update to this thread then.
I must say this unit is GORGEOUS! the finish compliments the new style and color Neptune is using. The Trident NP does not have the soft rubber finish however.
The unit looks exactly the same in all other aspects. There are a few slight difference that I did notice under the hood so far

-Reagent screw tops are labeled as 1, 2, 3 - this is so you dont mix up the trident reagent with the trident NP reagents
-The reagents and tube labels are also a different colors - Purple, Orange, and Grey
-Tops screw cap feed tubes are plastic instead of metal
-There is a Reagent 3b which must be mixed with reagent 3 before the unit can use it
-The front top plate comes off and there seems to be a cylinder to measure a level of fluid - possibly a reagent or water test sample level?

I use a glass Voss bottle.

If you end up setting it up then all you will need to do is click on the NP, configure, and set in the value for waste container size.

Voss bottles make awesome dosing containers.

After 3 days of dang near spot on testing comparing tests to the HANNA, I noticed some issues with the readings.
PO4 continued to read 0 on both NPs as opposed to the HANNA reading 0.03 on the LPS tank, and 0.05 on the SPS tank.

Yeah I am having similar observations with mine as of recent. First few days were spot on and then yesterday it started reading 0 when hanna read 0.05 after multiple retests. I'm running nitrate around 10-12.

Seems like everyone is having similar issues with PO4 testing low. I plan to call technical support later today.

Let me know what they say, I spoke to someone with extensive exp with the Trident NP and they told me to try and let it do the just 1 test a day schedule, and not do additional manual tests. Not sure how that would have any impact.

And just to nib this in the bud before I get called out.. yes I am a compediators product user... but I still use Apex on one of my systems. I am honestly interested in the performance of this device and wanted to see how well it works.

Nothing solved yet. They did some diagnostics, passed all the tests, asked which Hanna I’m using and conversation I’m using …that’s where it ended today. Hopefully make some progress tomorrow.

I kind of find it odd it ships with a calibration solution but so far they have advised against using it.

I used the calibration as soon as I got it and it has been doing fine so far for me

Mine is still operating within expectations for me. I had a PO4 test result of .40, dosed the amount of LC required to drop the level by .1, ran a new test a few hours later and it reported .31. That is as accurate as I can expect.

Click on the Trident NP gear icon. Select Trident. Menu will pop up with a slider on the bottom. Click that and then send to the cloud icon. There is no task as of today.
