Hey yall just used instant ocean for first time if there is some salt residue obviously I did not mix good enough. Can I just use a power head to let it run and clean up. Also for tangs is it better to have the wave maker centered higher up or lower?? Thank you

Thats perfectly fine, i mix my saltwater with a oversized power head every time.

I would put the waver maker at the top of the tank.

Edit: you’re talking about mixing the residual salt with a power head in a bucket or something, not inside your tank right?

Yes I mixed in bucket then when added to tank there was a little residue salt.

So powerhead more towards the top will be better for the tangs environment?

Thank you

Just realized this clumping I would grab the big pieces and they would dissolve into the fine sand .

It depends on how much residual salt was left and how well you mixed the saltwater, but I think it should be fine.

Having power head close to the top is best for the tank in general, not just for the tangs.

powerhead placement is so subjective. You need ripples in your water surface to allow to gaseous exchange to take place. Still glass like water surface stagnates, oxygen depletes. Tangs like to swim, they need decent water flow to swim into and swim with, they play in the water currents. I run a pair of Maxpsect Gyre xf350 on either end of my tank, running opposite each other on a 5 minute interval with 3 MP40's on the back wall to eliminate any dead spots in my water.
8ft 300g mixed reef tank. here is a pic.
