I have always wanted to get a Phillips Coralcare gen 2 ever since I discovered them online.
Now that I am moving tanks, I plan to get one in the future. The new tank would be lit extremely well with just one fixture.

My question for R2R is:
Does anyone know if there is going to be a gen 3 of the Phillips coralcare?

Unfortunately not. Looks like Philips dropped out of the reef game all together. JUst looked at the website and even the WORD coral does not return any results on Philips webpage... bummer, doode. Go to plan B lights.

A quick Google search took me to the Philips page for the Coralcare. It said to check CoralVue for all US sales. And a search for philips on their site shows the Gen 2 listed. Looks like they don't sell it online anymore unless you go the ebay route, but CoralVue does list LFSs that may sell it.

It's a great light........I've seen it in person. The problem with it is there isn't enough blue diodes to satisfy the blue head group. It also has only two channels to adjust.

The joke of it is, a light designed like these are what would actually be better for most reefers................they just don't know it. Marketing of other brands has brainwashed people into the more blue the better.

People also complained about the weight but it's a fair trade off for not having fans.

You can get them cheap in Coralvues outlet store section. It says open box but I have bought quite a few products in this section and a lot of the open box stuff is brand new & never opened. The full warranty applies

I have 2 that I purchased in 2021. Brand new, never installed (long story)… finally going to be installing this weekend. Hopefully they work.
If they are brand new, there would be no reason why they wouldn't work.

I had reached out to CoralVue a few months ago regarding the light, support, and if there is a Gen 3 in the works. The reply was no, nothing in the works that they are aware of. I understand that they can't talk about things that are in the pipeline but the email response to me indicated that the Gen 2 was the end of line.

BRS also didn't help any with its review of the Gen 2. Their "BRS Recommended" settings reduced the overall PAR numbers and spread. Changing the spectrum that much required dialing back the white channels to bring it up to their liking. Cause, effect.

Have to give credit to both Philips and ATI for their passive colling innovation. Or should in my opinion.

Do you know what the spread is on these? I've looked around but info is getting sparse.

You can use the BRS review of the light to get the spread. Just remember that BRS likes the AB+ and have their own version of it which will reduce the overall PAR numbers of these lights. The reason is simple. They had to turn down a lot of the white color LED's to achieve their blue look which translates to less overall PAR because of the loss.

Dana Riddle has a good review on it.

This is exactly what I was talking about in my comments.............the total insane amount of blue head marketing is not an objective evaluation. If these came out when halides and 110w VHO tubes as supplements were the go to norm, Phillips would be a massive hit.

My friend has two over a 150g 60x24x24............this is fine for all LPS and if you want a mixed reef you would want to keep the acros centered in a 24x24 area for each light.

Imo, 24x24 is a great usage of one light for 360 degree coverage on a dominant Sps system.
