It’s going to be in the single digits near me this week. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me?

I think I have a solution. I’m going to visit Andrew Sandler/Polo Reef this weekend and I’m sure I can get one at one of the many fish stores/vendors near him. I’m very excited about this and can’t wait. It’ll be my first time seeing his tank in person. The tank and mansion we all wish we had with the money none of us except for Andrew have haha.
There you go. Problem solved.

For the record, I don’t wish for a mansion. ;)

That’s interesting because I have never heard of a single vendor shipping live fish through USPS. The only one that uses USPS is the vendor I get macros from and they would get delayed/not be rush shipped and die.

I think it depends on rates but I do *most* of my buying from locals here who tend to use USPS. Vendors that do live sales always seem to do FedEx and some local fish stores in Orlando wanted to use USPS as a first choice (I think based on price and maybe some other reasons I just don't know enough about). Luckily none of them have given me a hassle using UPS or FedEx. I did an order for Dr fish and he used USPS a little over a year ago.

You know I joke with him that he’s living in his fish’s house lol! Since well his entire house was built around his 17,000 gallon reef tank. In additions to his many other tanks.

But that being said I know I can get another it’s a dusky wrasse. But as mentioned how are other sellers shipping fish? For instance many places still are despite weather. Maybe the difference is it’s being shipped to businesses so the other option could be is I have it shipped to an access point that was it isn’t sitting in a cold truck for long.
A lot of the reputable sellers have said they are not shipping this week or atleast for the next 3 days.

Fish stores get their fish and coral either air freight or route van pick up. It wouldn’t be conducive to order boxes and boxes of livestock and have it shipped by carrier.

Did you say it was a dusky wrasse? If so i see them available pretty often. Rarely do i have to wait long to find one.
Yes it is. I could only find a few sellers that had them in stock online but I’ll try calling around fish stores near where I’m going this weekend. No one near me has them.

I just ordered one from my lfs. Should get it in once the cold snap is over. Easily my favorite wrasse.

So it’s going to be in the teens and single digits. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me? It’s not really going to warm up that much anytime soon. Do I just request the seller add extra heat packs and insulation and ensure someone is home for the delivery? Or do I not order fish right now online and just go in person? The fish I want are only online. I guess the other thing I wonder about the argument is fish stores still get fish no matter the weather granted I know some are air shipped.
Don't risk it. I had to Coral vendors decide it was OK to overnight me corals and all of the 12 died except for two. For the sake of the animal, wait until it warms up

No, that's the short answer.

Some sellers won't be willing to ship in that weather, but at my local shop with local highs in the very low 20s for the next couple days, the owner told me that all but one of their suppliers wouldn't ship to them this week because of the cold - either their facilities or the shipping transfer points are cold enough that they wouldn't risk it.

Wait a week or two, it won't stay this cold for that long.

Noted thank you. Why don’t you like it?
I wasnt born than but my moms friends brother used to work there and there super cheap with the animals and would barely feed the puppies and the fish was in bad condition and "apparently" i quote because im not sure its just rumored that they burnt the place down to cash in on insurances, and just an overall ng place. If you're gonna be in Suffolk, Caribbean blue in Bayshore and fluid dynamics in deer park are good, fluid dynamics is only open 4 days a week thurs-sun and its kinda small but the owner is really knowledgeable. and if you're looking for corals there's this fancy coral place who's name i forget but its on the border of deer park/dix hills. and theres country critters in patchouge huge store and "exotic" pet store with alot of everything there

No because I’m not a fish influencer lol him and I are acquaintances although i consider him a fish friend and he invited me over randomly and I couldn’t pass that opportunity up.
