It’s going to be in the single digits near me this week. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me?

How’d you swing the Polo Reef gig?
Him and I are acquaintances although I consider him a fish friend and he randomly invited me over and I couldn’t pass the opportunity up! I’ve wanted to see the tank for years and I couldn’t just ask him lol. And then one day he randomly invited me to come see the tank.

I have to say he’s the only billionaire I know but from my interactions with him and from knowing his passion and knowledge he’s incredibly humble, generous, and truly in love with the hobby and truly does give back to so many people not just in/around the hobby but to many charities and other things.

Thought you mighta met him through your school since I thought you are a teacher? He had a couple of job opps I thought about applying for since I’m thinking about retiring but was just a bit too far for me since I’m in CT and he’s in LI.

I’m not a teacher. My Mom was a director and I was a student and I got the tank donated, set up, and cared for at my local college. I had connected with him about the possibility of a donation to help fund it. But due to unforeseen circumstances I won’t get into it was a bad time for him and his team and it got put on hold and then the new director/person who replaced my Mom since she got a new job and I graduated hated the tank so it was forced to come down plus I just didn’t have the time since graduating and having a full-time job. I wish it could’ve lasted a lot longer than it did and it didn’t end how it did. But the tank lives on in another school near me.

Ah, OK. I remember reading something about a tank in a classroom. My bad.

So it’s going to be in the teens and single digits. Do I risk getting fish shipped to me? It’s not really going to warm up that much anytime soon. Do I just request the seller add extra heat packs and insulation and ensure someone is home for the delivery? Or do I not order fish right now online and just go in person? The fish I want are only online. I guess the other thing I wonder about the argument is fish stores still get fish no matter the weather granted I know some are air shipped.
The UPS could delay the packaged. Here on the coast of Texas in Aransas Pass I have been waiting for packages to ship. They keep getting delayed. Depends on where you live and how far you are from your online shop. Me, we are very far away.

I was told it would have to be cancelled and refunded which sucks. Part of my issue is it’s a fish not commonly seen in the hobby and they couldn’t hold it.
That would actually be a good seller then. To not ship in freezing/hot/ in climate weather.
Sucks that they canceled but it was a good thing. Check back in a few days to see if it's still available. I'm sure you understand that they can probably sell it 10x over so holding is not a good business practice.

I think I have a solution. I’m going to visit Andrew Sandler/Polo Reef this weekend and I’m sure I can get one at one of the many fish stores/vendors near him. I’m very excited about this and can’t wait. It’ll be my first time seeing his tank in person. The tank and mansion is something we all wish we had with the money none of us except for Andrew have haha. I will definitely be posting photos I’m really excited.
LOL, he probably has some of my money I lost. :( being a trader manager.

I am pretty sure any LFS has to have their stuff shipped to an airport pickup. They ship late and pick up early so nothing is stuck outside or in the cold all day
In an ideal word. In reality - pallets get stuck on tarmacs, or loading docks or airplane holds -- people make mistakes, other things take "priority". Planes get diverted or flights get cancelled and cargo does not take the expected route or time, etc. So on a good day, there are plenty of losses. In sweltering heat or freezing cold, there are a LOT more. Most reasonable LFS wont order during weather like this and most reputable wholesalers will not ship with a forecast like this. I am sure that there are exceptions on both sides.

A seller not willing to hold because of what is considered bad shipping weather is probably a seller not worth dealing with.
Pretty much this.

“most reputable wholesalers will not ship with a forecast like this.”

At this time, several Florida vendors say, “no shipping if high temperature is below 30 degrees

I personally don't order livestock until I know that the weather is going to be at least above 60F. Winter storms cause delays and I don't need the stress.
