Thanks for checking in! Yes, so far. Wind's pretty nasty but so far no sparks. I've been checking on my friends in LA and offering them an escape pad.

Well, the fruits of a night's labor: success.. maybe?

Light mount is all set up. Three hours, I think. Meaurements, drilling, bolts weren't quite long enough... Problems too boring to recount.

Anyway, got it fixed, set the arms perfectly to slide the Orphek in. And whallah!

Some felt padding to muffle vibration noise:

Awesome! Aaannnd, it the light doesn't work... Plugged it in, nothing. Tried resetting, nada. It was working yesterday (Tuesday), now it is not. Unit is basically nonresponsive. Only things I've done to the light:
1) removed the acrylic top to clean the fans/wipe down the acrylic which had dust caked to it.
2) vacuumed dust bunnies that were trapped inside the unit, particularly between the heat sink ridges.
3) vacuumed the fans
4) replaced acrylic top but switched out the hanging light screws for the button screws (which is how it should be.. not sure why previous ownher had the long screws in the middle and short screws with the hanging kit).

This has me worried...

Guess I'll be calling Orphek to see what I can do or making a DIY help me post.

Side note, at night you can really see how the Caulerpa is taking over. And the clowns still trying to nuzzle into a sleeping toadstool.

That corrosion and discoloration is troublesome. If it were me, I'd remove those wires and cut off just past the corrosion and strip 3/8" of insulation to expose "fresh" wire. If the copper is good and clean, I'd then clean the connectors lightly with some sand paper and reinsert the wires and try to power it on. If the copper isn't clean. I'd continue stripping back as far as I needed to to find clean copper and then reinsert and try power on.

Stripped and cut wires. Cleaned up that little green box with some pressurized air and isopropyl alcohol.

That view of the connector shows it has been HOT! Likely due to the corrosion. I would definitely make sure you periodically check it to make sure the corrosion doesn't return and address it immediately if it does.

Yes, now that I know what the problem is, I'll keep a close eye on it. Light is easy to slide out of those T slots, so won't be a big To-Do.

If we do get evacuated, our game plan is first regroup at my office, then off to Big Bear to hang out in the mountains (unless they are burning... which is what happened with the Airport fire!). Either way, more tank time!

Big day in the office! I got my new Resolute Desk and rearranged everything (except the data guy's space... he can keep it... for now).

Like the space more. Think It'll come together nicely once the new tank is running behind my chair.

Yes it is! Neighbor office closed shop. Been there for 20+ years and had all high quality wood furniture giving away. I also picked up a HUGE multi-section matching book shelf, but will have to break down the 40 before I can move that in.

It's Sunday, so time for some weekly GOALS!

I've finally got some momentum on the new tank. Just a few more jugs of saltwater, a bit of drilling and ready to start moving it over!

Goals for the week:
1. Kill Aiptasia
2. Drill M5 holes and flat countersinks (forstner bit) into the top of the stand
3. Bolt the 2020 aluminum profiles into the underside of the top plywood
4. Screw in L brackets to side plywood to "seat" the top support profiles
5. Fill in countersinks with black silicone
6. Lay the acrylic layer on top of the stand
7. Join SmartDoseContainer float switch wires with Hydros sense port harness with heat shrink solder wire connectors
8. Mount control board and power strips
9. Buy and mount wall outlet waterproof housing (unfortunately, the outlet is right behind where the tank is going)
10. Make about 30 more gal saltwater
11. Rinse the remaining special grade sand/sludge--never again, CaribSea, NEVER AGAIN!
12. Move tank to office!!
13. Kill Aiptasia

Drill your countersinks first before your 5mm holes. Purchase SS fender washers and use that size to dictate the forstner bit size. Use JB weld epoxy instead of silicone and sand flat. Silicone will shrink slightly and leave the top of the countersink vulnerable.
The 2020 is a great solution. Also you should put small pieces of 2020 other places in the top of the cabinet to support lights and plumbing. While your at it....
