Quick Update - no pics on this one yet.
Lost the copperband about a month ago - not sure what happened as it seemed to be eating fine, but found it on its side going down rapidly. Funny thing is that my Yellow tang was getting really beaten up by something, big bite marks on its fins and all - since the copperband has gone, its all back to normal.
Strange how one fish can cause so much tension in a tank! (My son reckons it was one of my Blue Tangs that was beating it up, and the Yellow was beating up the Copperband on and off)

Added in another Acro - not sure what type, my Son bought it for me from the LFS, he also bought me a Duncan and a Small Green Torch which was nice!

Just placed an order for a stack of Favia, so will be nice to add some more colour into the tank with those - just need to figure out placement.

Lost my Red Dragon acro as my Urchan knocked it off the rock, and my Son decided to glue it back on while i wasnt home...needless to say, he covered it in superglue and it bleached overnight...

The urchan also snapped the top off my Blue Digita Montipora...so now i have 2!
Great to see your son is very much involved in the reef.
Not all is going perfect, but he deserves a golden buzzer for initiative.

Yes, i actually encourage them to do everything on it!

He has just set up his own freshwater planted tank, and is so enthusiastic about everything at the moment.

Been a year since the start of the thread!
How's it all going ? Anything new and exciting happening ?
New coral a few weeks ago - have a few acro's doing well now.
Adding in some more rock now also so i need to do an aquascape update at some point.

Have a small amount of GHA popping up around the place sporadically, so keeping an eye on that, but other than that it's been very stable.

Will update with some pics soon ;-)

Next big thing will be finally fitting doors and stuff over the base of the steel frame!

Glad to hear it's going well!
Looking forward to the updated pics.

It's crossed my mind recently also about adding more rock to the tank to create some more hiding places etc for the fish.

I went for a minimalist/negative space aquascape, which looks great, but you run out of space for coral pretty quite, and theres not as many hiding places for fish. So trying to add in some more swim throughs and cave's for them - plus the extra rock is good for a bit more bio diversity i figured!

Yeah that's what I've been thinking as well. The current fish all have their spots, but I'm thinking about adding a bunch more soon and I think hiding spots/sleeping spots will be a bit tight, will have to see.

Few quick update images, snapped with a new camera through the Red Sea glasses.
Added a few more coral today also -
Bronze Mottled Hammer
Green and Gold Tableing acro
Bubblegum Digi

Still have more rock that i'm slowly adding in, so the scape will change over the next few months a little, but its getting there slowly!

Been a little while since an update!
Have added in some more LPS (Mostly Hammers)
2024-10-07 15.23.09-2.jpg

Turbo Snails are still going Nuts - have donated close to 50 of them to local Reefers for free, and given a bag of about 50 to my LFS, and still i get this on the glass most nights!

Might slow down as i finally introduced a Shrimp and Bluelined Goby pair (which are currently hiding under a rock since i put them in!)

Still have a slight hair algea issue, but it seems to be slowly going away, doing my best to just sit it out and let it sort itself out rather than resorting to any chemical solution - just removing as much as i can each week when necessary.
Chaeto is still growing like crazy and having to trim it every week.
Some feeding video's below -

Lookin good mate!
What sort of stuff do you feed the hammers/gonis ?
Other than chucking some mysis toward it/in the tank I've mostly avoided direct feeding but perhaps thats why my LPS corals don't seem to last or something.

I feed Reef Roids about once a week, and also use Red Sea Energy AB+ every other day.
You do have to watch the phosphate levels with Reef Roids, but since i done broadcast feed it, rather do it with a thick almost like a paste through a syringe, it doesnt affect them too much.

I do feed them Mysis occasionally, but find my fish just steal it all, at least with the Roids they get a chance to get something!

My Nitrates are sitting around 20-30 at the moment, so contemplating dosing Vodka, but in 2 minds as the tanks looking great (apart from the bit of hair algea around - thinking of adding a lawnmower Blenny in hopes it will eat some, but have heard they can nip coral).

Yeah maybe that's why I've kind of steered away from using something like reef roids etc in the past.
In my old tank I always seemed to have a Nitrate and Phosphate issue. With nitrates being anywhere from 20-50 and phosphates anywhere between .1-.2ish or so.
This tank thankfully I've been able to keep it lower with my Nitrates down around 10 and phosphates have usually stayed low (until recently).

Reminds me I need to probably test again, it's been a minute!

The target feeding def helps with not too much just flowing around the tank - i also turn off all my pumps and wavemakers when i do it so the coral has half a chance of getting it all.
Has been working for me so far anyway :)

Added in a Bluelined Shrimp Goby a couple of weeks back, that was paired with a Tiger Pistol Shrimp.
Hadnt seen them since i added them in, but could see they had made a nice home under one of my rocks, and could hear the shrimp from time to time.

Yesterday they have finally started venturing out -

Finally got my Triton ICP tests back, and actually other than my Phosphates being slightly elevated which i already knew about, its pretty good - link below.

My Phosphates have been dropping by themselves slowly, so i havent done anything myself as I'm trying so hard not to knee jerk react to things!

I was surprised by my calcium being a little low, as my Hanna checker always tells me its high, but i dont test it all that often as i know the tests are not super accurate.

They do recomment dosing some of the minor trace elements - what are everyone's thoughts on these? I dose Coral Elements Alk + Trace at the moment, but only about 30ml a day as my tank doesnt seem to consume much more alk than that at the moment.

Nice, yeah I found my Hanna results to be slightly off for the calcium (only by about 10 I think) and the Mag was way off. Might have been a bad batch of testing stuff, I changed over the weekend and it's finally reading super high so I can finally turn down the dosing for a bit on it lol.

I didn't really react to anything on mine, purely because I didn't want to knee jerk it like yourself.
