I was under the impression that these were dang near invincible. Correct me if im wrong but short of a full tank nuke I don't think leathers die.

Any update?

Not sure. The new one(big one) hasn't really done anything new. Looks like its turning yellowish on one side. And algae is starting to grow on it... And since I moved it up my tyree green hasn't opened up. Which hands-free cause that little guy opened up from the first day I got him and sometimes wouldn't even close at night. So I am genuinely worried . everything else seems to be fine though . not sure what the deal is

Mine has been like this 4 days now. I did notice it was slimy hopefully it just shedding and opens up soon. ... idk. And the large new one never opened. Its Been in my tank since may-24-2016. It started looking like it was gonna open but didn't. And again once I moved it up is when my green one stopped opening. .

Moving it up might have effected the flow just enough to make the smaller one pull in. ANY change in flow or placement has resulted in the toadstool closing up in my experience. Hardy, yet sensitive. It's weird.

My first toadstool was a loss. I purchased a "large" Fiji yellow umbrella toadstool from saltwaterfish.com for $60. While my tank was still cycling I had it in a friends 30 gallon. From the moment it arrived something didn't look right. And it had a small grayish/black hole. It never opened, spewed out lots of toxins killing some of his corals, and began rotting. We did emergency surgery trying to savage a frag of it, but in the end the main and frags all rotted away. Leathers put out some nasty toxins so be on the look out for that. And if it should start to shed use some tweezers to help remove the layer that sheds off. Dispose outside of the tank.

See how it was rotting away. This is the most is ever opened up. I believe it had a worm or other bad parasite inside of it. Also, it never stood up. That's a bad sign too.

Last night I noticed there was a pretty decent size asterinea crawling all over the newer bigger toadstool. Even though I dipped it. It may not have fallen off or done it long enough. Im hoping that was the issue. They must have hitchhiked on item ive never had them in my tank before

So it slouched completely over and fell. Its literally hanging on by a thread and its shedding a whole lot more.. Its also starting to affect my other corals (I think) as they're not opening anymore. And they've always opened. Idk if Im just being impatient or what the deal is. But it doesn't smell bad. Someone told me to watch out for bad smell. I really do not know what to do next. Breathy want this leather. But I really don't want to loose my others.
Opinions? tips? suggestions? Comments? thoughts? Concerns?

You could add a bag of carbon. That will help remove anything nasty until it is done shedding

It still looks healthy. Once it sheds it will be fine and open. Add the carbon and do a small water change and you will be fine

Get a bag of carbon if you can. It will help allot. I use when mine is shedding

I will place some carbon then . do i need to remove once it is done shedding or can I just leave in there ?
