Hi, I've finally got the chance having retired to take a long vacation (around 9 weeks), There is no one local who can look after my tank, I have done 4 weeks before, with auto feeder and top up water automatically with wifi from abroad, when ato ran out, My tank has 3 filter socks (its a 2ftx2ft cube approx 250litres), an wasn't too bad when home but I think 9 weeks is too long, and well aware of the socks holding nitrate etc, Its a fish only tank so no corals, with rock landscape

Whilst I'm loathe to do it, an option I'm looking at is to sell my fish and start again gradually restocking when home, tank is mature at 2 1/2 years old, I water change 75lts (30%) every 3 weeks and has all been good, my question is , if I was to sell the fish and effectively go fallow for 9 weeks, would I just leave the tank running as normal, filtering, skimming, and 3 filter socks in etc, as assume I couldn't just leave the water standing, Apologies if all sounds a bit stupid, and I did think of selling my whole setup, but prices in UK rock bottom, so looking at this option. Thanks In Advance for advice

Yeah I think thats fine to leave it running like that. Problem is the RO top off, maybe get a bigger reservoir? Also maybe see if a store could hold your fish and care for them in store while youre out?

I completely agree with your suggestions. A bigger RO top-off reservoir would definitely help manage evaporation over the 9 weeks without frequent refills. Also, having a store hold your fish while you're away is a great backup plan.

How many fish do you have? You could probably just leave it with an auto feeder and bigger ato reservoir and be fine for 9 weeks. Ive gone on a month vacation and came back and tested all the parameters and I could have definitely gone another month or 2 and still be fine.

Just leave some cameras so you know if anything fails.
