Today I was doing my daily aiptasia dance and took out a small piece of rock and placed it on a tray to be cleaned. When I moved the rock to the bucket of hot water, on the tray in a drop of water was a micro brittle star. I have never seen one fully, only their arms extended out of the rocks. I figured this was a unique opportunity so I studied it for a little while before letting him back in the tank.
They have seven arms radiating from the central disc. And relative to its size, the mouth seems to be huge. Luckily he was upside down at first so I got a pic of his mouth, unfortunately its not that great of quality, I was still trying to adjust the focus on the micro camera. It moved like any star fish moves.
It was a fascinating thing to see I think and I wanted to share it. Here are the pics I was able to get.
