seems about right. I would recommend testing every few days if anything changes.

Great start for getting into this hobby! Definitely did what I should have done with my first tank and that is go with a sump. Will allow for alot of good things in the future; and way to start pretty big. 75 gallon tanks have great dimensions and allow for many possibilities of stocking. Make sure you research your live stock purchases before introducing them, wouldn't want a bad experience discouraging you.

With your questions. First your ammonia will build up, depending on what is in their to feed it (I recommend feeding it every day to sort of prepare for fish later), then bacteria will grow to consume ammonia, converting it to nitrite then nitrate. Soon you should be getting levels of nitrite along with your ammonia, then no ammonia and nitrite and some nitrate. Then your Nitrate will climb while your nitrite declines to zero.

Some recommendations that I didn't see anyone make. First, your skimmer stand could become a ditrius trap in the near future. What I did was use eggcrate cut to size of the foot print of the skimmer plus a little extra, and I used 1" (or any other size around the house) cut to size you need to lift the skimmer. Drill holes to allow movement of water and holes that will allow you to ziptie the PVC to eggcrate. This will be much more low profile and less detrius collecting.

Also, maybe put a light barrier on the right side of the skimmer to block the light from the LED bulb. This will prevent algae from growing inside the body.

The new aquascape picture wouldn't load, I'll try again, but my $0.02 is to allow adequate room between the rock and glass on the sides to allow your magfloats to get in to clean the glass and room for hands to clean it also.

Good luck and keep up the great work. Doing great for your first tank.

Wow, thank you so much for looking through my thread thoroughly. I really need all the help I can get! Your pvc + eggcrate idea is great! Ill pick some pvc up and cut 3 sections as spacers to set the eggcrate on top of. I didn't realize algae would grow in the skimmer! I'll find some rubber and make a shield for it, to reduce the chances. The new aquascaping will be attached to this post.

Im really enjoying the tank so far. And I'm glad i built the sump as well, i wanted to do it right the first time.

Here is the aquascaping video. I made a lot more caves and also removed some rock from the sides as you mentioned, and others had mentioned previously.

I've read a bit about people using chemi pure elite. As a filter for phosphate and nitrite, should I be using this in my new sump?

just skim your thread and looks good, i know chemi pure elite is good for phosphate
not sure about the nitrite, just wait a little longer for it to naturally drop to 0
i would start to run chemi pure elite after your cycle is over.
