bad to worse day here ,2001 explorer sport trac ,starts at 2-3000 rpm then dies , can hold gas pedal will jump idle again between 2-3000 rpm let off dies undriveable
any ideas mindhive ?

IAC valve, MAP sensor.
Air intake problem.
Check engine light on?

yes is on had checked awhile ago MAF sensor was only prob listed was a couple of month ago though

Yeah could have just **** the bed.
Should be able to remove it and clean it.
At least check it out.
Tap on it while running.

won't stay running ,guess i'll be changing it out tomorrow first

Completely possible.
Mass air flow controls amount of air into intake.
Lots of miles on the rig?
Crappy gas now, probably coated in carbon.
Just a hunch, especially if it ran OK yesterday, day before.

Mess around with it a bit
Unplug it,plug it back in, tap on it, etc.
You can clean it after taking it apart but I'm betting it's a gonner.

I like MAF / air issue as well check for cracks/connections between MAF and throttle body also, if you get un-metered air in there will do similar stuff.

I got duct tape on my Honda Pilot intake tube like a boss.

Tapped on it a lil bit, stopped the high rpms, will idle ,like crap though , new one ordered be here friday...
