Hi Everyone!
I’m Barb, and I live in Ohio. I’m a grandma, and I’ve been in the hobby since 2007, into reefs and love them, but due to stuff I had to downsize the number and sizes of tanks.

I had so much good fortune with my 65g reef..I also had several species-specific tanks. Seahorses, angler/frogfish, carpet nem w its specific clown matchup. I miss all of that!

I now have a JBJ 28g nanocube that’s been running fallow for the last year, and I’m getting it ready to stock again.
Instead of a reef (boohoo!) I’m going to stick with a FOWLR set up. Less $$$$ and heartache with no coral…I’m a reefer at heart, always, but just can’t do that now.

I have a FIX question!!
I have a Tunze Comline DOC skimmer that has worked great for me, but the dang magnet is so strong that it’s broken a hole in the chamber panel it’s attached to.
With water running through that hole the skimmer’s not working right. Does anyone have ideas to fix that hole?? I’m pretty handy so any suggestion is welcome

Anyway! I’m glad to be back on a forum and really look forward to getting to know lots of you!

Hi and Welcome to R2R. :)

There's a lot of us more mature hobbyist here.

So it's the chamber wall of the tank's back compartments? Not the body of the skimmer?

Welcome to R2R! Did it crack or puncture a hole through? If its a hole you can try to superglue the plastic back into place

Hi! Thanks for the welcome!
Not the skimmer. It’s the divider in the chamber that the skimmer is attached to. The strong magnet made a hole in the actual divider.

Hello to another more mature hobbyist!

Skimmer is all good. It’s held by the strongest magnets in the world to one of the thin dividers in the back chamber.

The magnet broke a hole in the divider. There’s no way I’d be able to fish that piece of plastic from the bottom of that small, cold, dark space

Well I have had the exact same set up twice. If I remember correctly the Tunze Doc Com only fits in 1 compartment, so you can not change placement.
You might have to go with a different skimmer. Good news is there are a lot of different nano skimmers on the market now.
You would have to empty the tank to fix it and the integrity of the chamber is compromised now. You could patch it but the skimmer magnet would break it again right?
