I've been cycling this 80 gallon deep blue shallow rimless for 4 wks now and the water is still cloudy is this normal? I have never started a new tank with dry rock and new live crushed coral and sand.the haze is killing me!!!

Filter sock should clear it up quick. How are you cycling it? I've never seen a tank be cloudy for more than 2-3 days a week at most.

Filter sock or any filter media would be a start and also do you run any carbon or chemi pure? It can help polish the water up quick.

I run a 4" 200 micron filter I haven't started the carbon because it removes ammonia and I need the ammonia to build the bacterial foundation i thought should I be running my carbon reactor?

I have just used dead live rock and seeded it with a lot of copods and they are doing fine my tank is crawling with them this is my 3rd week test from last weekend

Nice setup! What ammonia source are you using? I would also probably wait on the carbon till your ready to start stocking. What kind of flow do you have?

I have cut the flow almost cut off I haven't added any kind of ammonia other than the dead live rock from BRS that caused a ammonia spike on the first test I added a whole bottle of bio Spira the first week and 2 bags of copods the 5600 pod bags with the three types of pods from algae barn and I've been dosing live pyto plankton every other day and the pods are everywhere active I was considering feeding the tank a little to build the pods and bacteria

Are you sure you aren't having a bacterial bloom if you've ruled out particulates/sand in the water column...mine lasted 6 weeks during my first couple months in a new setup with dry rock/dry sand...

March 22nd- around week 5 of cloudiness...water changes did nothing.. livestock =1 clownfish in a 100gallon tank...about to pull what's rest of my hair out and almost pulled the trigger to buy an expensive UV sterilizer...

March 24th- 6weeks to the day...tank cleared up!

This was patience lesson number 2 for me...
