Curious if test strips are accurate enough to start testing water from local fish store and live rock. All the posts about testing with everything other than test strips () makes me wonder if I need to go buy something more sophisticated for testing or not. Help!

Your link isn't showing but in general, test strips are "ok" at best for cycling, and then should be thrown in the trash.
To make a tank safe before adding fish, you need to 1. See ammonia present, 2. See ammonia decline to near 0, and 3. See nitrates present -- in that order.
