Started reefing circa 2020 with a 20g tank... quickly became packed with coral, but now we are here! (Freshwater tanks for like 20 years at this point...)

125g Cichlid Tank stand and build:

This 125g glass tank was in prime real state in my living room. I know the spot holds the weight above my basement (along cement wall and near structural beam)

Move it to basement to make room for reef tank!

First step was move 125g tank down stairs. This is a glass tank and it's heavy. Also decided to build a stand in place to save the hassle of moving the stand in use now.

Now the part all 3 people maybe reading this are here for:

Picked this tank up from NJ @Lam'sReef (suspenseful drive back home...)

It's 72" long, 24" wide and 29" tall. I went with this dimension since it's kinda what I already had in place, just a bit bigger or more space for an eventual reef tank. Also, really want a tang gang so figured this might be the smallest tank a tang gang might be happy in. It's about 220g in display water and an additional 80g or so in sump volume.

This euro brace might be tricky later on to add a power head. Was thinking a reefwave 45 gyre, but the cable and lid might interfere with each other. I do like wrasse... so will ha e to figure out a solution later.

I came home one day... my wife had cracked the glass patio door. Apparently a fly was in the house... :#

*I don't think she got the fly

Kinda made the decision easy tho... tank was too wide to fit in the door... I was trying to figure out the best route to get tank in the house... went with the "eh fk door is already broken let me just remove it" route.

And then moved the tank in the house, and on the stand... by myself.

Note existing reef tank... mostly out of space lol

Oh no I believe you. I almost died 6 times.
but-did-you-die-ken-jeong.gif
I got pinned between a 125 and a stand once dragging it out of the house on my back down 3 steps to the garage. Now when my gal says I shouldn't do something and that I'm scarying her I tell to start the video :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing:

Yes. I didn't really lift tho... slide one side and then the other... slowly...
oh that's smart, probably is safe enough to slide on furniture pads

You go. I think people believe I'm lying when I tell them I moved a 180g alone and put it on the stand
I moved a 60g and the stand all by myself, I thought that was impressive!

This tank is a 220g 3/4" acrylic.... I wouldn't want to try and drag in down my flight of stairs entirely... but Lam did bring it downstairs by himself tho. The key apparently was an electric winch. Screwed on to the studs above the door frame. Easy up or easy down!

Sorry to derail the thread but I just gotta tell you about bringing a 900lb gun safe up three steps into the house then through the house to the other end. By myself but with assistance of our atv with a winch. I ran the cable up over rafters and raised one end up and pushed it into the house. It slid off and broke one of the steps but I manage to get one end in the house and eventually got it stood up and used a dolly to get it through the house.
Can you imagine how smart I felt a few days later when I found out how much narrower and lighter it would have been if I'd taken the door off :zany-face:

Took the tank off the stand... wasn't entirely too happy with the way it sat. Added a few more 2x4s on the back and thicker plywood across the top.

Following along . Nice fresh set up. And I managed to drag a 90, albeit acrylic up 3 flights alone. Not fun. My SR60 was trickier, had to use a mini dolly to bring it up.

I dont think I'd do stairs...

Have you polished acrylic? I'm looking for pads I can use on my drill with nuvus 2 and 3 and can't seem to find one that would work.
