I just saw an algae scrubber in action for the first time. Those things look awesome. Do they work as advertised?

Another prop for the santa monica rain 2. Its crazy how well these work. I. Trying to find the balance between lighting schedule and feeding to keep nitrate and phosphate detectable. They work very well!

Yes, they are very efficient. In my case, too efficient. I have taken it offline for the time being to dirty up my tank a bit. It worked so well I ended up starving my tank of nutrients. I need a bigger tank with more livestock for my ATS. :p

I’m doing a FOWLR and being that I have 3 other tanks, the less I have to do in my DP the better.

IMO, if your going FOWLR, then an ATS will be perfect for your system as you won’t have to worry about stripping your tank nutrients for any coral.

*Edit - By no means am I saying that an ATS is bad for reef tanks either. They are incredible tools for filtration. Just that in my case, my 57 gallon tank was too small and too understocked, so my particular ATS worked too efficiently for my system.

Love my scrubber. Saves a ton of space compared to a refugium of equivalent nutrient uptake levels. Plus, I was able to convert my old refugium into a frag tank :)
This is typical growth I get every 4-5 days:
