I'm a glutton for pain, hah. I’ve found an OSFF that has transitioned from corals to a diet of mastic and frozen foods. Has anyone here successfully kept one of these fish in their SPS tank? Even though it’s already weaned, I’m still a bit hesitant. I do have a frag tank where I could introduce it first to reduce any risks, but I’d love to hear if anyone has had good experiences with it in their SPS display.

I have one that eats frozen from the water column. Fat and happy. However, his preferred grazing is on SPS. I kept him for a couple of months in my 340g display that is full of large SPS colonies. He killed nothing, but his grazing caused each colony to retract their polyps during the day. I love polyp extension so the file fish now lives happily in an LPS frag tank.

Yea, that's what I'm nervous about. I do like the PE. Did he cause all your colonies to retract? How big was the tank? How did he handle the high flow?

The tank is 340gal. He handled the high flow no problem. It was actually very cool seeing him navigate through a massive stag I have and under the tables. But every colony reacted the same: pucker up! He's been out of the tank for more than a month and my formerly shaggiest colonies are just now starting to show some PE.

I had an aptasia eating file fish in my 135 gal SPS tank. It never had any interest in aptasia.

All it did was go from acro to acro pecking. I don’t think he hurt anything, but I lost nearly all polyp extension.

I grew to hate that fish. He’s someone else’s nightmare now!
