I read some posts and watched some videos and I think I will try the DIY coral snow. People say it is just calcium carbonate mixed with some RODI.Any pics of the tubes?

Oh ok. Thanks for the help. I am just cautious because I don't want them to just keep multiplying and take over the tank to the point where I can't kill them and they keep bothering my coral.I don't take issue with vermetid snails. On the rare occasion that one bothers a coral, I will kill it. Otherwise, they are just part of a healthy ecosystem. Some people will tell you that they are a scourge -- my tank is over 20 years old, and I don't share that opinion.
I would try to relax a bit more and enjoy watching the tank mature.
Why? Your tank is new, what you are seeing is a natural progression. My advice, (third time?) is just relax and enjoy the system while it matures. Dumping a bunch of crap in to chase non existent problems is only going to create more problems to chase. Ok, I was just telling the other person that I might do the DIY coral snow. It is just calcium carbonate which isn't anything bad. It wouldn't have any affects as far as I know. It isn't something that is specifically made to do something like chemiclean and stuff. This is just for water clarity and also coincidentally helps with cyano. Why? Feed the fish. Do your water changes. Follow the basic recipe. The rest of the nonsense will get you in trouble. Learn the basics first and then you can later (a year or so in) decide what silliness you want to try
Update so I finally picked up a turkey baster and used it and the diatoms and pink/red/purple algae just easily flew off but the not even a piece of the green came off. What if it is green coralline? Is that a possibility?Extreme Water Clarity and Cyano Eradication, Made Easy!
Edit 10/092023: Note that I have tweaked the formula a bit. You can find an updated video here: Coral Snow Link: Coral Snow Hello all! I have been reefing now for about 25 years, and over those many years I have picked up many tips, tricks, and best habits/practices. From a hobbyist and...www.reef2reef.com
for the bits you are able to scrape off with tweezers, it is likely it could be coralline algae. for the green/red mats of "fluff" with some air bubbles, its cyano.
Got it, so sounds like it’s still pretty fresh. I am by no means an expert, but from researching my own problem, it is usually best to wait it out, remove manually, and ensure good parameters. If that doesn’t work, then chemi-clean can take it out. Do be warned that using chemi-clean can leave opportunities for Dino’s to move in though, so be careful of that.Tank is on the newer side I guess, it’s about 4 months old and I did a fallow for 1 and a half months so it’s not too old. Should I use anything yet or just wait? If I wait it would be more natural or I can use chemiclean to take it out right now. What should I do?
Thanks for the advice! It isn't really "fresh" as I have seen it for 2 weeks maybe even more but it is starting to get bigger and spread. I saw a couple spots on the other "island" aswell start popping up. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.Got it, so sounds like it’s still pretty fresh. Depending on a few different things, your tank may be just getting its bacteria and the normal algae. From my experience, it takes from 2- about 6 months or more to really begin to establish a tank. Don’t be too worried when a little algae pops up, it’s normal. Just ensure good parameters, keep cleaning, and keep an eye on it. If it starts to get out of hand and everything else is looking good, chemicals can help.
Blow it with a turkey baster. Cyano will dislodge. Can also be start of coralline or even a substance known as foraminiferansI have diatoms right now which showed up about 2 weeks ago. Recently started getting these other algae’s such as the green and pink/purple ones. At first I thought maybe coralline because of the different colorations but I don’t think it is. Maybe cyano? They are not stringy or hair, and they come off with scraping with tweezers
I did try with a turkey baster, the pink/purple/red (they are like a mix of all 3 colors) easily came off and same with the diatoms. The green stuff never came off even if I tried very hard. The green was barely coming with scraping with a tweezer aswell. So the pink/purple/red might be cyano, but I don’t know what the green is.Blow it with a turkey baster. Cyano will dislodge. Please post pics of the green under white lighting - No BlueI did try with a turkey baster, the pink/purple/red (they are like a mix of all 3 colors) easily came off and same with the diatoms. I took this pic like 2 days ago, I can take some new ones in about 2 hours. Also there are no air bubbles on the green ones it just looks like it because of some small white pieces of my rock landing on it when I was scraping. Please post pics of the green under white lighting - No Blue
My pods don’t really clean much, to be honest I haven’t spotted them since I got them maybe 1 week ago.I wouldn't stress, these are natural processes in your tank as it builds up biodiversity. I never try to get rid of this stuff as it feeds snails, pods and all other clean up crew organisms. I haven't cleaned my glass in 2 months. From a little distance it appears relatively clean. When you put your face up to it its covered with green algea, some spots of coralline, but also hundreds of tiny pods and snail eggs. I battled dinos for months and it's recently turned a corner. The dinos came when i got a lawnmower blenny to eat all my hair algea, which it did then dinos came. Dinos are receding to other algeas which are feeding my clean up crew. My snails and pods keep the glass and rocks clean now. Sit back and relax!
They need food to boost their populations. Algea helps! My pods don’t really clean much, to be honest I haven’t spotted them since I got them maybe 1 week ago.
Yes, I was dosing phyto every day. Still no growthThey need food to boost their populations. Algea helps!
Give it time. My pods disappeared until I turned my whites on higher again recently. I did this to cause algae to grow to out compete dinos. It's worked perfectly and I now have hundreds of little dudes on the glass. I've also fed heavily like way more than my fish needed.Yes, I was dosing phyto every day. Still no growth
