I want to plan my 100g mixed-reef tank around an eventual show fish, but I haven’t decided on who. It’s important to me that all of the fish get along (within reason) with no big bullies. I like silly fish, so I’ll have a goby or two, along with clowns and a few interesting smaller guys. Not a huge bioload.

Like everyone else I’d like a larger show fish appropriate for this size tank (DT is 100g). Copper Banded Butterfly is on my wish list, but I should probably get my feet under me before getting such a fussy eater, as I’m a newbie.

I’m interested in someone who grows to around 5”, will be happy in this tank without an eventual rehoming, is stunningly beautiful, and won’t terrorize everyone else.

Ideas?
I realy like the

blue star lepord wrass
Eblie eye angle
Coral beauty angle
Tomai tang
Blue tang
Maderian goby
Green watchmen goby or any other shrimp bonding goby and tiger pistol shrimp
Stary blennie
Fire dart fish “u can get real pretty pink/purple ones as well”
File fish
Hawk fish of any kind
Mcflasher wrass
Sixline wrass
fourline wrass
Any of them are good choises

Fairy Wrasse and Flasher Wrasse. Make sure you have a very tight fitting cover though - I lost one out of a hole where the chiller return goes through the mesh that I can only just fit my little finger in.
Also, avoid the Solon / Solar Wrasse; they’re beautiful but if I hadn’t rehomed it it would have killed my Lubbock’s Wrasse, who had been in the tank much longer (and this is a 5x2x2!)
That’s crazy that it jumped through such a small hole.

Get the Copperband.
If that is your dream they are not bullies that do damage to much other than Aiptasia.

Just buy a copper band from @Dr. Reef and you will be good to go.

I have one from him and it won't eat anything but live worms. They sometimes quit taking prepared after shipping. It won't even eat a fresh clam. Won't eat blood worms. Live worms only! You never know...

They come healthy and eating so it’s a worthwhile move. I think there’s a sale currently as well. So buy whatever else you were looking for.

I may indeed go this direction. Unfortunately my tank won’t even have water for a few days, so I’m not in a position to buy anything yet. But this is all helpful as I plan.

lol and then there’s this possibility! Guess I need to get comfortable with ambiguity.

Can just buy some worms o you are ready for anything :)

This is a large portion, can feed fish right away from this size, feed them greek yogurt

Flame Angel or Coral Beauty Angel.

Temperament varies from fish to fish. Some are model citizens, others can be kinda jerks. Especially Flames, particularly against any other red fish.

Very striking and pretty fish.

Both are “reef safe with caution”, which means they may or may not eat corals, or may not eat corals until one day they do. Mostly an issue of you have LPS corals as if they go rogue they seem to target those, particularly Acans and Hammers.

If I ever get one, and I also want one, I'll be going this route.

But I will also heed Tamberdav's warnings, and be pre-stocked with several foods that it might want.... Getting them to eat is what's stopped me thusfar.

we had a diamond goby jump through the plate for the auto feeder, so it literally knocked the plate off the lid and hardwood surfed, sadly. That plate is only 2inches long and maybe 1/2" wide.
I’ve actually been worried about this. I have a lid being made right now, and it will have a cutout for the Avast Plank feeder. I’ve been wondering if that might be a problem.

Yeah, if the covers are light weight, and this one was, I'd strongly consider adding something, or taping it when not in use.

The only reason I had auto feeder cutouts was to future proof the lid, I don't even have a feeder yet.

Would a flame angel and CBB get along?

I had something similar with pearly jawfish, 3 of them jumped out of a 13 gallon tank, even after I taped up all the holes in the lid that I could. Somehow they managed to squirt out. A spotted mandarin as well, but much later.
