One of my chalk bass has this on both eyes. Looks like a clear bubble. He’s acting very confused too
Like he’s blind, which isn’t hard to imagine. I have him in a quarantine tank with maracyn plus for 24 hours but it doesn’t seem to be improving.

The most common way to id gas bubble disease is along with the bulging eyes, is the fish display a problem with too much positive buoyancy. Are they struggling in their swimming behaviors?

His swimming behavior is more confused. Like he can’t see. More negative than positive buoyancy. He just settles on the bottom.

His condition looks like the Anthias in the first article. I can’t figure out why it would of happened. I haven’t had any temp swings. My tank is filled with healthy acros so I think they would of been stressed first. I did recently crank up the flow in the tank. Could that have caused it?

Very possible. When you increase the flow, you are increasing gas exchange (available oxygen) in the tank. If the pressure of dissolved gases in water becomes higher than atmospheric pressure, an acute gas supersaturation event can occur and this is the result in fishes. What is your tank temperature? I'd also check for leaks in your aquarium plumbing, to see if air might be getting sucked in that way.

I also turn off my return pump when I feed so the animals can get all of the food. I’m sure the air is sucked in as the water level drops below the loclines. I’m been doing that for a awhile but I guess it was just too much.

So after 10 days of marycin plus and epson salt the swelling on his eyes went away but he wasn’t eating much in the hospital tank. So I put him back in the main tank and in 30 seconds the swelling in eyes returned. what the heck????
