Good evening fellow reefers! I'm starting this thread with the hope of sharing my enthusiasm about my latest reef related acquisition, 1000 lbs of genuine OG Pukani rock, yes you read that right 1000 lbs. I got it from several sources over the last year and I'm not really sure what to do with it just yet, it would be a shame to cover it up with encrusting corals, somehow I see a big fowlr tank in my future lol. I do know that it is amazing, lightweight and full of holes. I have a good mix of sizes, from fist sized pieces all the way up to 20" and 27lbs. There is nothing that compares to the porosity of this stuff.

This is the only photo I have at the moment, and only represents about 1/3 of it. As I begin unloading it I'll take some more photos of these gems.

I have a bin of approx 100 bs of a mix of true ocean live rock from various sources that I bought 15 - 20 years ago. Rock today is junk and not porous or interesting like the old stuff. Some places still do have live rock and up charge for it, and it comes filled with pests like gorilla crabs and octopus and algae. Other places have Aussie live rock for $25 a pound. I saw today someone spent around 180$ for 8 lbs of live rock.

I would love some of that pukani to add to my stash. I broke down one of my tanks 9 years ago and stashed the rock in a brute bin with saltwater. I used a bunch for my current tank and this is the leftover. And now…I have new tank to start and I’m so glad I saved this.

Well alright here’s the latest acquisition, an additional 1048 lbs of original dry Pukani rock. With what I bought in April, and some from a tank breakdown, and what I bought this weekend, I’m sitting on approx 2200 lbs.

The pile in this photo is HALF of what I have on hand.

I’ll have to see if the site owner will allow me to sell this here without me being considered commercial. Stay tuned…

Well yeah me too!

I have the old wood from the crate the Pukani was in also, from Fiji, it might be worth something to someone who builds pallet wood furniture. It’s some kind of hard wood.

I know what you mean about covering it with coral, my reef club friends and I talk about that sort of thing often. I have some plans to set up a large FOWLR and use some of it.

I've been going 150% lately, and so has my amazing wife of 30 years. Without her support I could not have purchased over a ton of this rock. This weekend I have another club meeting to attend and a coral farmers market after that, then I'm going to not think about all of this rock for a week or so.

I will update this thread as I put some way of selling it together, I know there will be a lot of you who would like to own some of it. I cannot say how much of it will be for sale or at what price point just yet, I still have those things to work out. Check this thread later for any updates. If there are no updates for a week or more feel free to send me a PM.

Might want to reach out to the various CUC sellers in Florida who often sell base rock and unload large chunks.

I have no problems selling it, it’s the shipping that kills a deal. I just can’t send it across the country like a vendor can, I don’t have any deals on shipping. A 25lb box is upwards of $100 to Florida.

I’d like to see it go to private reefers who will keep the pieces intact. Will Bramucci at Epic Aquaculture, a local to me, recently acquired a few hundred pounds from me for his new reboot. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s done with it.

Some of it is very porous and lightweight and some of it is dense. Interestingly, I was playing with some of it not long ago and the pieces which are heavy and dense make for a better aquascape, visually anyways.

I’ve sold perhaps 400lbs of it so far but I haven't tried too hard to market it. I have a project coming up and that will use some of it. I’m in no hurry to unload it.
