They could just be terribly disconnected from it being 2021. This happens a lot with older people running a company.
One of my wholesalers refuses to put any type of online payment platform because it will cost them 3% in fees and they only pay 1% punching it in themselves. BUT its takes like 2 days, some prayers and just short of lottery winning numbers to get a hold of them. IMO they would sell so much more but they refuse because, and I try to say this as nicely as possible(and zero disrespect to the older generations, these people worked HARD to get to where they are) the youngest person in any type of leadership position there is 64 and doesn't want to hear it from more tech savvy people around them.
I would voice your opinion and discuss with the sales person/ manager they might update things if it means a significant enough dollar amount
Actually, we have a very large portfolio and many of the products are highly customizable. Those sales need to be processed off-line. BTW, I am only 63...

You could make a lot of that customizable with different variables for most things but I do understand your point. I made a program with google sheets that will factor in up charges and price increases depending on several variables for a local glass builder in my area. It even links with their supplier's price so that it keeps up with the cost of goods. It might be easier on you even to do that vs. having to communicate with everyone over every single detail. Ultimately, its up to you how you do business
That being said 9/10 retail customers aren't used to sending a pic of their CC or sending the number via email. it looks like you use shopify so you can send a cart invoice or a checkout link to them directly so that they feel more comfortable transacting

Sending CC by email is a pretty bad idea. I honestly don't think my staff would have suggested that, but if that is what the OP says what happened I am not going to argue that. We do have the customizing feature working pretty well now.

We all know sometimes employees goof haha. Heck, sometimes I do too.
If you have a standard price structure it works really well and I can send you some examples of what you can do.
Lets say its X amount if the customer wants a specific type of overflow, X amount if they want to increase the tank per gallon, X amount for black background/ bottom etc, X amount if you want square corners vs rounded(not necessarily things that you may offer but just tossing in ideas) the expensive and hard part is having it sync with the cost of supplies but most acrylic/ glass guys will stockpile supplies so I wouldn't say its specifically necessary.
You can also make these all variables on your individual products as well(I believe some companies do that) so it would just be little check boxes that add or deduct dollar amounts to the product. Very much like if you purchase an apple product and you can add or remove parts.
I cant share the specific one because it was a paid product but basically it allows anyone in the company to price out a tank of any size with most standard variables that customers request and you can leave the custom tank thing as something they contact you for(but seeing all the products you have on the site they would have to get REALLY creative to come up with something you dont offer).

I am thinking to buy a ATO and frag rack. Any reason that shipping is always charged and no free shipping.
Why some items are not "free shipping"

We all know there is no such thing as "free shipping". Trucking companies, UPS, FEDEX and the US mail service all charge for shipping. Instead of burying the cost of the shipping into the product's price, Tenecor adds it at the end. This is a more fair and equitable system where the customer in a low freight area does not subsidize the customer in a high cost destination such as downtown New York City. We do not make any money on shipping. The rates we charge customers are the rates we are charged.

Even after shipping charges, we are the lowest cost.

My 240 was about 19 years old when I sold it about 2005 or 6. Nice tank and the person I sold it to had it set up for years after me.
There are many older Tenecor aquariums out there because we built a lot of them and they really do last a long time. I have not posted to this thread in a while. We have made lots of additions to our product line. And we have addressed our capacity issues as well. Our third production facility is about 70% operational. "Big Momma" is now wired up and will be ready any day (pic below). Still dialing in a couple of settings. Our CO2 lasers will arrive any day now. We already received the first of our 3D printers.

Hello everyone. I am the original founder of Tenecor Aquariums. From way back in 1979. I want to share with all of you some of the background of Tenecor and what is happening today. If anyone has any questions, please write me directly. Here is a summary of the Tenecor story.

I established Tenecor back in the late 70's and wanted to diversify. We figured fish tanks would be a pretty good market. How hard could it be to make a fish tank out of plexiglas? Well, it turned out it was a bit harder than we thought. But off we went. The first tanks were comically tragic. We started out with superglue (bad, bad idea) and needless to say, those did not turn out so well. We got wet very often. Eventually we figured out our processes and started turning out some nice aquariums. The turning point was when we figured out how to build a wet dry filter into the back of the tank itself. Back then the phrase "AIO" did not exist. This was not easy since acrylic aquariums have tops and bottoms. It was like building a ship in a bottle. After about a year of trial and error, we got things worked out pretty well and business took off.

Remember, it is 1980. No internet. All of our growth was from word of mouth. Soon we added a second shift and then a third shift. Business was growing by leaps and bounds. Our top seller was a small AIO we called the "Model 8" It was, as the name implied, a small approx. 8 gallon tabletop saltwater tank. We were selling about 200 per day. On the other end of the spectrum were the big tanks, 500 gallons and up. We got really good at those also. Every Friday, two to three semi trucks of aquariums would ship to stores from coast to coast.

I sold Tenecor in the mid 90's and started several companies in the medical device field. The second owner had extensive industry background in composites and he took Tenecor to even higher levels of success. He ran the company from around 1994 to about 2008 when it was sold again.

Just before COVID, I was unpacking some boxes in our new home and came across some Tenecor pictures. Curious to see how they were doing, I found out they went out of business under the third ownership. I always enjoyed the business and decided to resurrect it.

By now, I had sold two of my medical device businesses and living very comfortably. Three things had changed since I ran the company: 1) this thing called the internet. 2) LED lighting and 3) ecommerce. I spent the lockdown year sourcing and building new equipment ( almost all of our production equipment is designed and built in house) and designing our new web site.

After 14 months, we are operational and building fish tanks. I have personally hired the initial staff and am very pleased with how they have taken to the business. I also realize there were quality issues under the last ownership. I am sorry for that. Going forward, it is a different game. Attached are pictures from back in the day. Please ask me anything.

Hello. I am new to Reef2Reef forum. Interesting discussion about tenecor. I just realized I have tenecor aquarium.I established 479 Gallons reef tank in 2007. It is Acrylic bow front made by Tenecor. I loved it. No issues after so many years. It is 1.25 inch thich walled. Now for reasons I want to sell it and buy a smaller one so I can handle it for physical and time reasons

I have a 55G Tenecor from the 80's it is bulletproof, just confirmed my new 125G AIO is being polished to be crated and shipped, I also own some Truvu Aquariums (no AIO) design available, I compared your's to Red Sea and Waterbox, if you want acrylic aquarium only Tenecor makes what I wanted and the best quality and superior product.
