It’s isolated to one coral. It’s not a tank crash

Heres pics from a few hours before lights off

I’m not following your logic here… nobody said it was a whole tank crash.
But certain corals can be more sensitive than others to certain things. We see this all the time in reefs where almost everything looks great except 1 or 2.

Taking away the variables makes it easier to decipher what’s actually going on is all I was saying.

Good luck. I gotta head out to work.

Alk has never been stable consumption in this tank it’s weird

I can measure daily at the same time each day and some days it’s no consumption and some days it’s .2

I find it’s easier to maintain a goal of 8-8.5 and sometimes I get slightly out of that range but the rest could have been prior to me adding all for reef. And not all tests are logged. A lot of times I randomly test and it’s 8.2 or 8.4 and I don’t log it because it’s where I expect it to be

However…I do agree and want my alk to be more stable, but I don’t want automate dosing I want automated daily testing. That new mavis unit intrigues me and has my interest

It’s been through much more drastic swings and been completely unaffected. I don’t think dropping .9 in a week is a big deal for it. I appreciate the input and I don’t disregard it. My first instinct was that it’s alk related. But with the history it doesn’t really make sense because it’s not a huge swing, nor was it in a short time period like a day. And I’ve had larger swings in shorter times with no effect. Don’t get me wrong, alk is in my head and I corrected it immediately thinking it’s related

I saw a hermit on it around a week ago. Which was odd to me because I never see hermits or snails on it. Possible the tissue got injured or irritated.
This is what they do, cuc, cleanup dead/dying material.
I don't think they are the cause.
I don't think the alk swing either.

It's really imploding fast. I don't have the answer but, imo, get a frag and dip it. See if the frag survives.

Sorry to hear about your chalice, that's such a great colony too. In situations like this, I would hit it with a huge water change and then another one a week later. Rule out anything that you can't test for.

What I would be most worried about is it spreading to other pieces.

I hope you can figure this out. I don’t know where you are located but if this doesn’t work out and you are within pickup distance I’ll be fragging my raja rampage chalice again soon and I’ll give you a chunky frag. As you know they are quick growers.

Decided to wait it out and see what happens

I broke off some of the damaged / declining right side…it was very thin and brittle

I notice color on the far left might have improved. But I also notice all these tiny holes in the eyes

I don't like the holes honestly. You can wait but watch it closely. Watch for it start to melt away. If the holes get bigger and flesh pulls away, it's all done.

IMO, frag a piece of healthy tissue and dip it.

The holes are not something I’ve seen before, and I’ve searched this forum and there’s no posts about chalices with holes that I can find.

Honestly if it doesn’t make it I would rather start off with a new one instead of take a risk with this. Im hoping it’s not some kind of infection but to be honest…I’m at a complete loss of ideas here

Did you do ICP testing?

Maybe a water change will help whatever is potentially in the water. That's my old school ways, whenever something is off, do a water change...then ask questions later. Although I would send off an ICP as soon as possible, may give you a clue.
