SCIENTIFIC NAME - Labracinus cyclophthaimus

COMMON NAME - Red Dottyback (Dampiera, Red Grouper)

SIZE - 7.9" (20 cm)

MIN. AQUARIUM SIZE -

FOODS AND FEEDING - Meaty foods, varied diet, fish, Mysid & Brine shrimp, squid, mussel, crab, crustacean flesh, frozen and live preparations for carnivores, feed 2-4 times a week.

REEF COMPATIBILITY - Will eat ornamental crustaceans and small fishes.

CAPTIVE CARE - Very aggressive fish, do not keep with smaller passive species, can be kept with Eels, large Squirrelfishes, Groupers, Snappers, larger Angelfishes, large Hawkfishes, Triggerfishes, a voracious preditor that will eat most anything (including new born mice which is not recommended). If smaller fishes are too large to swallow whole, this Dottyback will break them into pieces to get acceptable sized chunks.

I'm setting up a tank for this fish now, do they dig? I have read some larger dottybacks dig [emoji14]

Yep! Mine most definitely digs and pulls my snails out of the sand. He's a little guy...about 4". He gets bored and chases around smaller fish, even though we feed him a lot (large portions raw shrimp, krill, and silverside every other day). He's a mean old hog!
