Just found a couple of these in my tank and was curious what they were. Tank has been up and running around 3 months.

popping them and releasing spores is a myth.
1st time I see some one who really know about the bubble algae and how it reproduce xD (probably many know too, but never saw some one to tell and every one replay they reproduce more when popping and releasing spores)
Here some info about the processes for spreading/reproduction:
By: rhizoids and segregation cell division

So you are free to smash, popping, cut, etc ... w/o problem just look to scrap the surrounding area to take off the rhizoids.
