Hi all,

I am moving soon and instead of moving my current tank as-is, I'm planning to purchase a new tank and have it cycle at the new home before I move in because I am not at all happy with my current rockscape and am having ChandlerRocks build out a custom rockscape.

I was planning on purchasing a Red Sea Max Nano G2 as it seemed like a good deal with the included light and skimmer with the option to add the nano mat. However, my LFS has a JBJ 25 Rimless on sale for $725 including the stand and I already have an AI blade light I can use. The Red Sea is $999 including stand.

I know a skimmer is not required for a nano reef, my current nano cube is not running one and seems to be fine on water changes only. Does anyone have any opinions regarding the tank choice? The JBJ caught my eye not only because of the price but because the AIO sump is much roomier than my current Waterbox AIO and I'm thinking the same for the Red Sea as well.

I just cannot make up my mind, so someone make it up for me! LOL

You will likely get a range of opinions on this question. There are people are turned off by Red Sea because of the challenges that they have had in the past with the larger RS tanks. I have not had either one of the tanks that you are asking about, but I have seen the JBJ 25 at several shows and I have assembled several RS Nano G2s as giveways at several shows. IMHO, I have considered both tanks for myself and I would be please to have either tank. If they were equal pricing then I would personally lean toward the G2, but that is a decision that you will need to make for you. If I remember correctly the G2 is heavier and more sturdy than the JBJ and the G2 has the armored seams on the front inside corners and I don't think this included with the JBJ.

I agree with ya @Peace River , for RS anything above the 200 is where all the complaints came in.

Since your talking nano tanks, ive heard nothing negative about that size for either of those manufacturers.

Pick the one that you like the best, size, color, aesthetics, layout etc..
