I would probably get a second opinion regardless of what kit I was using. Take a sample to the LFS and maybe they can verify it for you.

All the LFS’s around me use the same test kit. However I do know that mine could be bad however unlikely as before made sure I was getting the same reading with my fresh one as I did my old one before finally throwing it out. I also have got a check 2 weeks ago and their check matched mine 100% but it would give me an excuse to stop in and see what Livestock they have in stock this week [emoji57]

You need a much better test kit for alkalinity. Salifert is a good brand test kits. But I recommend getting a Hanna checker.

It has worked fine in the past but I do like Hannah checkers (except for the Calcium Hannah checker which requires special lab grade water for the test).

Since it is a simple test still with the Hannah checker I will buy that one.

The Hanna alk checker is really easy and fast to use, particularly because no powder is involved. So easy that it encourages one to check the alk more often, and that can only be a good thing. It's also accurate and consistent. The best routine test for marine alk at present.

Ordered a Hanna Checker DKH tonight. Will be interested to see what the numbers from that show.
Good Call!!!

Have you been using .35 solution to calibrate your refractometer?

I've been using the Blue Bucket and it's always has nailed their specs.
12 dkh is more like the Red Sea Pro Coral mix.

Blue Bucket here as well and always about 8dkh at 35ppt. 5 cups salt to 10g RODI.

Never check PH on it and have gotten a little complacent in that i dont even bother checking with the refractometer a lot of times. Like @GoVols It has been that consistent mixing for me.

What’s your batch number? Maybe one of us has the same batch and can compare.

It is only a small 55 gallon bucket as I was trying it so this is what I see for batch number:

No batch number on the lid (outside or inside). And no sticker on the bucket.

Is it always on a sticker? I have seen way back when where a card was placed inside the bucket with the batch number for other brands. Before I go lifting the bag of salt out of the bucket to look, I thought I would ask.

I have never seen a card in the 5 years I have used it, I believe it has always been a sticker.
