Hi, I recently had some problems with these lights and was wondering if anyone else has had any of the same.
Had a 32" Basic sent to me. First day I noticed the light was changing colors off and on slightly. Called and they said to figure out which channel(blue or white) was bad and they could send me out a new driver to install myself or have a new one sent. Few days later the white would not go up more than about 24%. Called and was then told that I could have the driver sent out or I could send my light back and wait for a new one to arrive "if I could go without the light." Then I was told that too many people did not return lights when they had a replacement sent out first and that I could just purchase a second light and they would email(was forgotten) me a return label for the first one. Once I shipped it back they would start the refund for the bad light. I have corals and cannot go without the light so I decided to purchase a new one. Went with the better timer version since I was having a new one sent anyways and it has only one cord instead of three which was great.
The new light arrived yesterday with the display/screen damaged. Called today and decided to have a new timer/display sent out and I would make the repair myself, trying to avoid more hassle and money. I'm in almost 600 for both lights at the moment.. Went into the reef room and then really started looking at the replacement light I was sent. Noticed some of the lenses are foggy looking(could be normal). The moon lights are all those type of foggy lenses and a handful of other blues are also. The problem I see is why are there 3+ LEDs that are dimmer than the moon lights?? 100% Visible on video also. On top of it all since I'm already typing, the light has gaps visible from the top view because the metal is not shaped/fitting correctly, also one of the grooves/slots the legs slide into the light is tacked/welded a hair off and not lining up making putting it on a hassle. Has a QC sticker on the light. Not sure why.
I'm now really starting to question my purchase. My tank is the Nuvo SR-60 and it's 36" long and I need to start looking for another option. Any lighting recommendations under $400 that will do SPS and not leave shaded areas in a 36" reef? I went with SB reef lights because I thought they were better than similar lights so I think the large box style is probably out of the question. Would really like to use SB Lights but I'm honestly not looking forward to a third light with problems right out of the box.
Called back a few times with no answer, then a young lady answered me and said to hold, Mike was busy with another customer. I just gave my contact info and said for him to call me at his convenience. Tried calling back after with no answer since I'm now unhappy. Feel like asking for a full refund UNLESS SB Reef Lights makes it right for me. Went out of my way more than I would have liked to for a new item and if asked, I would like a brand new WiFi version send to me as the replacement at no additional charge/cost to me. Other than that option, the possibility of having more problems with the second replacement isn't worth my time and effort anymore IMHO.
