Small fish photo dump. Scooty still kicking! He’s so small. That’s my pinkie for measurement. No bananas.
Are your sure your still having issues with dinos and something else like Cyrano or diatoms?? To me atleast it doesn't look like dinos, from your pics.

Okay.. how quickly do those things get consumed typically? like is it something I need to hound?
I'm not trying to open a can of worms, just trying to understand your parameter swings.

No, magnesium isn't consumed very fast at all. If I remember correctly for each 1 dKh of alkalinity it's about 20 ppm calcium. So again not very fast but fast enough you will need to dose calcium along with Allk. Magnesium is like 1ppm for every 20ppm of calcium. Dose 1-2 times a month maybe if your doing water changes.

The only reason I asked was because if you have low magnesium it can cause issues maintaining ALK and Calcium.

High Calcium can cause low Alkalinity and vice versa.

Typically getting your Alk set shouldn't be as difficult what you've experienced.

Have you noticed the sand getting hard clumps? White powdery dust settling in the tank on the equipment, or in the sump? It's possible your elements are precipitating out of the water.

That could be causing you odd and strange Alkalinity swings.

Lol..i don't like people asking me a lot of questions nor do I need anyone's unsolicited advice on anything.
I’m the same way and I was asked if I’d want to be nominated for mariner of the month and I was like. Woah. That’s a lot of questions and info needed. No thank you

Well you know... I've been looking closely at the pictures you post, and the skeletons of your acros are looking a little emaciated. I think you need to dose some unobtanium.

Yeah...don't feel like explaining how simple things are to succeed...its not enough "sizzle" for people.

Question 2. @billyocean do you think @BasementBox will ever figure out this dosing and get his tank going in the right direction?

Question 3. Do you think @VintageReefer is really vintage and helping with his dosing instructions?
3) all I want is the dude to figure out his daily drop. Any complexity or prolonged discussion is due to an unstable / unsettled tank. If he came back and said I drop .5dkh each day then we can move on lol every day it’s different lol. .3, 0, 1.0
