also - didnt think that much in my tank would freak me out, besides maybe having a run in with a bristle worm or something - but I was wrong. So wrong. Changing out my 30 day old carbon in the mesh bag - the amount of amphipods that came out and all over my hands freaked me the hell out

Honestly if it's just a bit of chlorine, it would oxidize quickly. It's like hydrogen peroxide, just a stronger oxidizer.

Carbon is all you need. Don't overreact, sometimes that's worse. Take things slowly unless it's an emergency situation.
sounds good appreciate the advice. I'll proceed with a water change today as well.

I need to probably start giving this tang a name. Probably a hole 1 and the damsel a hole 2.

This orange shoulder tang takes no s%#+. He’s been pounding on my powder blue for weeks. They’re gonna have some show down eventually.

Well I picked up the bag and was like oh. Thought I saw something move. Oh. Weird. There’s a big bug… oh sugar is that a baby bristle worm change my hands, then like a hundred pushed out of the mesh. I just took the bag and smacked it against the inside of the sump. Anything else in there. Well.

So all, besides having high nitrates and phos and probably some chlorine seeping through, got fresh carbon running, any other recommendations? Should I throw some purigen in the sump for a few days?
Yes I think that would be good. Might also try running some poly fiber to try and limit some contaminants that might have made it through.

So I’ve been literally watching this Acro grow like a weed. I feel like I can see changes day by day. Went back and saw photos over the last year. You can see my photo game has improved too lol.

Sorry this guy isn’t SBB but might try and do something similar with my SBB lightsaber. It’s grown outward more than vertically so might be slightly harder to see in some photos.

Anyway, the last ten months of my WWC Solomon Split Acro.

Billy dropping knowledge. So what would you guys say overall. Quarterly filter resin changes?
Resin, if you have 2, you could wait till the first one color changes completely then swap second to the first position, then new in the second.

If you have one, wait till the color change is 3/4 the way up.

Or if you ever get 1TDS.

I just swapped mine, but it had been 9+ months since the last change. Still wasn't completely spent but it had been a long time.

Everyone is different, different water qualities, different usage. Whatever works best for you.

I"m thinking every 3 mos or so. Most of y'all have high tds to begin with
Mines around 200 last I checked. I flush the RO before every use, once it gets <10 I start making water. It will settle to about 4-6 after the RO and down to 2 or even 1 after several gallons.

Just to add, I have 3 Resin cartridges, that third one is basically a hail Mary if anything gets by the first 2. Mixed resins in each, just easier keeping 1 batch of resin than 3.

My mixed bed resin gets used up very quick if I put that first or only use that.
I do Cation, Anion, Mixed, which seems to be a good order for me. Definitely prolongs the lifespan of the Mixed having it at the end.

No solo cation, anion?

FWIW- I do 1 sediment, 2 carbon filter (universal), 2 ro (ro1 waste into ro2)
then 1 cation, 2 anion
then 1 mixed bed
Carbon get changed 6mos, sediment 3mos

Never need mixed bed, rotate anion and go thru it pretty quick and cation much less.

I orig did it to save $ but idk - feels like I pay around the same in anion than I did for mix.
