For those with an algae scrubber - how do you like them?
Love mine
Primary filtration on my tank. Numbers are “tunable” based on hours of of illumination. Ran low numbers (.04 phosphate / 3-5 nitrate) for 1.5 years. Wanted better Goni extension and to play with higher numbers. Reduced hours. Now running .4 phosphate /nitrate 13.5) and things are good.

Going to experiment with lowering and meeting in the middle somewhere around .1-.2 phosphate and nitrate will trail along and end up around 5-10 I’m hoping

I got the small in sump IceCap and I'm liking it - definitely has stopped any hair algae from growing in the display although results still up in the air for it out competing the bubble algae

Looking better. Can you summarize your steps again what you did. I have cipro, amox, hydrogen peroxide, and interceptor on hand at my disposal

I have lost torches to bjd every single time despite kfc process

This time I was more aggressive with medicine

Coral was not opening one day and I dip
In hydrogen peroxide and this was how it looked. Entire bottom right was jelly

I did not measure hydrogen peroxide. I placed coral in a clear plastic “keg cup” and filled with tank water and squirt in hydrogen peroxide and basted off jelly. I add peroxide until i start to see bubbles and fizz forming slowly. Then let sit 10-15 min

Then in second keg cup I mixed cup of tank water + 250 Mg cipro and 250mg amoxycillin. I have an electric pill grinder and make them powder smooth. I also use 3 scoops chemiclean. I mix it all up and put in cup of tank water and stir for few min. This is a strong ratio. I don’t think you can dissolve it 100%. But most will dissolve and then some residue powder is left in the bottom of the cup.

I put the torch in this cup using a upside down plastic medicine cup that coral ship in, with X cut in bottom. Just as simple stand to keep torch upright. I baste water into a whirlpool every 30 min. I do this for 10 hours. Every half hour i stir it all up again. If larger container is used then pico powerhead can be used but I wanted to try making small batch of high concentration this time.

Then after 10 hours I put coral in plastic container of clean sw and floated overnight to see if jelly returned.

Still looked bad. Later that day I repeated the full process above. Next day I put it back in tank and waited.

Then I did this once more but shorter duration. I think 6 hour dip. I put back in tank.

Forgot to add this info:

Hydrogen peroxide in cup 1

Cup 2 was
250mg each of amoxycillin and cipro (1/2 pill each)
3 scoop chemi clean
One capful Restor
10 drops lugols

This is very high concentration in small volume. Normally it’s 500mg / 4 gallons.

I’m using 250mg in about 10 ounces

So far I’m liking the KH keeper.

Moved intake line to the chamber in the sum before the return section. Testing a bit lower than the return. Will do a salifret test at some point today at the same time the keeper pulls water
