Wait. I read that article Stoney. So if I can read which I’m pretty sure I can. Alk and calcium are hand in hand. One of the examples Randy mentioned was calcium hitting 200 ppm (mine was at that…) I did the water change which… it is reef salt. It likely corrected any imbalance which would explain why I hadn’t been seeing big dkh consumption in the last two days…

So… as I’m dosing dkh I need to dose calcium in conjunction…. So…. How do I go about that. I do have Red Sea calcium concentrate on hand. I just don’t know ratios.

Do you test calcium?

If your using a 3 part the usual math is equal parts of each - might work the same for a 2 part.

If not you need to test and determine what your actual consumption is and dose accordingly -

Oh heck it's getting late, but I think the magic numbers are for every 1dkh alkalinity it "should" consume 20ppm calcium. That's under ideal lab math blah blah

In the real world it can vary.

If either one Alk or Calcium is way outta wack it can affect the other.

Magnesium, which I don't think that article covers, can help balance those out. It also promotes coralline growth. One reason a lot of us here run higher Mg levels 1400-1500

Also Gonis and some other LPS seem to like higher Mg levels.

So if your loosing .5dkh a day you'll add 10ppm Ca a day. If what I remember is correct.

Before I got dosers I’d just throw a few capfuls in weekly and then test …lol that was also before the influx of both LPS and SPS

1ml Red Sea will add 2ppm for 25 gallons. Since your 125, divide by 5 equals .4 ppm. If you want to add 10 ppm you need 25mls

But if you add that at the same time as Alk, you can get a cloudy reaction. Best to stagger your dosing I believe. At least 30 minutes apart
