Hey guys

So I've had a new scopas for about 3 days now, and I'm trying to get him to eat, but he appears to be scared to death of the bok Choy leaf no matter how I present it. Is there a tip or trick? Thanks.

Can't say I've heard of feeding a tang Bok Choy. Have you tried feeding him algae?

I had a friend who is passed away who fed his tangs romaine lettuce and bok choy almost exclusively. If he was still alive, I'd ask him. The next time I go to the not so"L"FS I'll pick up some nori, but I just want to get this guy confident outside of the rock work.

Would agree. Last I heard Bok Choi isn't something most reef fish have ever encountered. Try Nori. I have never run into a Zebrasoma Tang that didn't go bonkers for the stuff.

Get nori at the grocery store. Way cheaper. Just be sure to get the plain roasted. NOT flavored.

Red nori at the pet store is also good stuff. I agree, focus on marine veggies to get the fish eating in captivity. Live brine and live blackworms are often irresistible to tangs as well.

Ok. Picked up a pack of plain Nori at the supermarket. Also some minced garlic to try. He still avoids whatever area i place the clip in like the plague.

Try rubber banding it to a piece of PVC pipe or a rock. I can't get them eating out of a clip at first, either.

Will do. I ended up breaking it up and feeding it like flake food, and he went to town on it. So at least he eats, and has been fed.

Feed him the nori and these suggestions:

But as for the minced garlic I would not use it. Most minced garlic you pick up @ a store is immersed in oil (or has other additives) that you don't want.

Terrestrial veggies can be used, but also should be used in conjunction with nori and other seaweeds to help offset dietary deficiencies.

Some tangs can be particularly skittish and can be reluctant to try new foods. Sometimes cutting it into strips and rubberbanding to a rock can get a response. Due to it being nervous you may need to add the food and avoid the tank for a few hours.

Are there any other fish in the tank? Other peaceful fish can help nervous fish settle down faster.

I tried live worms and my tangs ran like little girls, took 3 or 4 feelings to try them, then went crazy. My best food is Larry's reef frenzy!

Success today! Rubber banded it to a pice of rubble and after about 30 minutes of peeking out from behind the rock work he strolled over to investigate and then went to town.
Glad it worked! :)
