Goldflake is growing up, he's approaching 3". I didn't realize how much his appearance had changed over this short time until I looked back at old photos. Here's the progression:

FTS 12/25/24

I typically perform a small daily automated water exchange. Recently I observed the tank doing better with larger manual water changes. I came to learn the filtration was not working was the reason for the observation.

I noticed the skimmer output was way down to minimal output. I decided to take apart the skimmer for maintenance. The bubble plate was being nearly completely obstructed by bubble algae.

I had manually removed bubble algae in the tank a bit ago and apparently it made its way into the skimmer. I have mechanical filtration, but this had run askew and was letting water and bubble algae by. So no skimmer and ineffective mechanical filtration....2 strikes.

Everything is back in order now and skimmer is back to normal function. This is what I pulled out in the initial 36 hours.

With the filtration working well now for the first time in likely months, many corals look different. Many are showing better polyp extension and look better in my opinion. Some just look stressed, particularly many of the tenuis.

Going to focus on keeping things stable for now. Daily auto water changes. No further work with the sand. Going to hold off on changing the bulbs that I normally do around this time for a month or two. My alkalinity consumption is slightly up despite a lot of people in the home the past couple days in what I think is a positive sign.
