Serpent star lost all legs for a month without any growth. Should I separate him in a box?

He lost all the limbs and it's been a month with no visible leg growth. I thought he died a horrible death when I saw a hermit munching him, but I was so glad to find out he's still alive!

Anyway I was assuming it's because the food competition is tough? And should I put him in box like this and feed him separately?

hermits won't attack anything unless its already dying, As long as you don't have those that aren't reef safe. U can seperate your starfish but I think something is wrong with it. Try to feed it in separate box

Honestly I don't know the reason why the serpent lost all the limbs :(
It can also be bacterial infection in its legs. But if it spreads in centre then it is a problem or Could be poor acclimation or water quality but the number one cause of stars losing legs is low or high salinity and/or high nitrates so test them especially salinity

I see. Salinity always stays at constant 1.025 and nitrate is always almost 0. But I will check again tomorrow. Thank you very much!!
