Started the Ammonium Bicarbonate dosing 3 day's ago..first test so far so good but this is also after a 30 gallon water change. Was hovering around the same level before the water change. Also added bacteria had a Dino breakout after blasting my Phosphate up from 0.03 to .11 with Reef Roids. Done with that & chasing #s sticking with the Ammonia dosing & lower #s

Do you have a refugium? Mine sucks out lots of nitrogen so i also have to dose (NeoNitrate - just 3 or 4ml a day) As others said, once your live rock is saturated with Phos/Nitrogen you should start to stabilize. Reef Roids are also a good way to raise Phos (and a good way to kill your sps if you're already running a bit high)

Pretty bold statement to say it will kill your sps.. I’ve ran my tank from zero and now I’m close to .2 and sps have never looked better! How high is too high? I don’t think anyone has an exact answer.

Every tank is different. My sps start to suffer around .2. I wouldn't go any higher. I keep mine around .08

from what i heard, is higher phosp like .2, and above, it wont kill the sps, but it will slow or cease growth outright. which is a negative effect no one wants. but to kill them, i imagine it would have to be astronomically high. like 2.0. not 0.2.

There are widely divergent opinions on whether 0.2 or even 1 ppm phosphate is a problem.

Just beware that Tims ammonia (ammonium chloride I believe) will deplete alkalinity and is not intended for regular dosing so may not have the desired purity for ongoing use (don't know since there's no purity data provided on it that I have seen). I think food grade ammonium bicarbonate is a better best for most folks:

Have you heard anything about people dosing Ammonium Bicarbonate & have Neptune Trident issues after stating to dose it? Since I started dosing around 2 weeks now my Trident #s been tanking. I thought I was using more Alk Cal & Mag so I increased my dosages but the #s kept dropping. I calibrated the Trident, numbers shot up, but now doing the same & I know these #s just aren't correct..any thoughts????????? Could the Ammonium Bicarbonate be affecting test results??
