I am not sure what to make of this all 3 probes are in the same area of the sump. The room temperature is about 72-73 degrees so I have a hard time believing the temperature is around 85. Any advice?

For curiosity, what reading will you get if you spread the probes around to different areas of the sump/tank?

Those black digital thermometers are notoriously inaccurate from my experience with them. I see from my experience that those cheapy floating glass thermometers measures accurate when compared to my Pymeter digital temperature controller probes.

Get something with mercury in it - gonna be more accurate than any digital or probe based sensor. Those little guys are cheap tools and not made to be precise. Use a mercury thermometer to just know how off that they are.

I had one of those digital ones in the beginning and it never got exact it was always 2 degrees higher. My hyrdos temp sensor seems more reliable. I use it with my ato on the small hydros x2 controller. The other digital I had never got above 57 degrees for some reason

Those are cheap thermometers but your tank could be at those temps. With the lights on it won't stay at room Temp.

Tank is going to run much hotter than room temps due to lights/equipment warming the water. Especially if you have a UV sterilizer as well.

Do they even manufacture Mercury thermometers these days?

I thought they were banned.
