Hi. Long time lurker, even longer time reef tank and aquaria owner. I think this might even be my first post on this forum. Nonetheless, I finally feel like I have acquired a large enough tank worthy of posting a build thread for. I'll post some prior (and current reefs) in the comments.

The purpose of this tank (other than because I have a reef tank addiction) is to simplify life a bit. Currently, there are (2) ~100 gallon aquariums setup in my living room. A ~7 year old gen 1 Red Sea Reefer 350, and a ~1 year old Waterbox 100.3, 6 feet apart from each other. The plan is to tear down the Red Sea entirely, move contents and equipment to the new 200 gallon, and then eventually move inhabitants of the Waterbox into the 200 gallon tank as well. The Waterbox will then replace my 50 gallon peacock mantis shrimp tank. A multi-step, multi-month, plan but eventually I'll have one less reef aquarium. While neither of those tanks are anything more than FOWLR tanks currently, both were once impressive and thriving (if I do say so myself) reef tanks. I'd like to get back to that with this 200 gallon in the form of a LPS heavy mixed reef, focusing on torches and corals that give movement and life as background to the fish.
This is my largest personal aquarium yet, second to a freshwater 110 gallon community tank. However, I've taken care of much larger aquaculture systems and reefs for work on a routine basis.

This thread will be updated as I go as I'm still gathering pieces of equipment for this tank as paychecks permit.

Tank/ Stand:
Innovative Marine 200 gallon INT Peninsula on their black APS stand

Lighting/ Mounting:
1x Kessil AP700 and 1x Kessil AP9X
Custom fabbed 80/20 aluminum mount

Brains/ Automation:
Apex powered
Trident
2x Neptune DOS

Powerheads/Wavemakers:
Thinking about 2x Octo Pulse 4+'s to put on the overflow side as I want to keep my viewing panels clear

Sump:
Innovative Marine's RFS-50 (74 gallons)
Cabinet Lighting - Litever LED door switched light bars

Skimmer:
TBD - open to suggestions - Will use the Red Sea tanks Reef Octopus 150SSS until a larger skimmer is found

Return:
Innovative Marine MightyJet XL (2656gph) DC return pump.
Heaters:
2x Eheim Jager 300W (controlled by Apex)
Refugium:
Chaeto (to be grown with a ChaetoMax 2 in 1 LED)
Miscellaneous:
CaribSea Special Grade dry sand (I bought 200lbs, not sure I'll use it all)
Live rock will be brought over from the Red Sea aquarium and I have more that's been soaking/ seeding in a tote for over a year at my disposal as well.

Current state of the tank:

Tank, stand, and sump on day of delivery in all of it's massiveness

Checking on the tank glass for cracks and breaks - Also should be noted that this tank was considered "blemished" by Innovative Marine, but it looks perfect to me so :zipper-mouth-face:

Some good shots of the sump and goofiness of what innovative marine calls prefabbed plumbing for this tank

To add some color to this currently boring thread, here are the Red Sea and Waterbox in all their former glory that this tank will be replacing.

welcome to the IM 200 club.

I got mine before they came with there plumbing kit. but yes the plumbing on the peninsula is goofy right.
was the stand pre-built? that 10' stack of goodies is crazy.

I am using reef octo 250 on mine along with a medium ice cap ATS both are going good.
reef octo skimmers are my top choice.

Almost like they tried to make the plumbing work for multiple of their large tanks and the peninsula got the short end of the stick. EXT tanks get dual return as well vs INT only gets one that's split off inside the tank.

Nope! Stand came in pieces but was pretty easy to build. Only took about an hour and instructions were pretty straight forward.

I've also always owned RO skimmers so I'm definitely leaning that way on this tank. However, Red Sea RSK-900 has really been catching my eye as well.

Great tank selection! One of my contenders for dream build. Though I think I like the EXT 200 more than INT. The way the overflow blends with the glass is too good.

Have you decided on wavemaker placement? I've seen people struggle with flow as to not place wavemakers on viewing sides.

Thanks!

I would ideally like to put an Octo pulse on either side of the overflow. They're kinda directional so if I can put the magnet on the slanted piece inside the overflow divider, then angle the pumps to blow down the length of the tank.

Lets get it wet!

Spent most of this weekend filling the tank up with RODI water and rinsing sand. Purposefully left the sump dry so that water displaced by the sand had somewhere to go. I'll top that off before adding the salt.

I've got about 80 pounds of dry sand rinsed so far. Took me about 3 hours to rinse two 40lb bags.... never again. Next tank I'm sticking with live sand and saving the hassle. It's not worth the time and water bill.

With that said, I think I'll need to rinse and add at least another two 40lb bags. I'll probably end up with about 160lbs of sand total in there.

Also where did you find the IM in stock? Every place I have looked is out of stock and will notify when in.
I got the tank directly from IM. It was in their "Blemished Tanks" section so it was immediately in stock. Shipped it to me the following week after order.

I am kind of more interested in what looks like a car turned into a repo truck?
Haha it's just a normal light duty tow truck. The tow body is kind of custom in that we had it specially built for larger tool boxes vs the smaller ones it normally comes with. Just a very slanted fiberglass tail you're seeing in that picture.

What's everyone's thoughts on a UV sterilizer for the low price of whatever a bulb replacement, quartz sleeve, and gasket kit would cost? I've had this dinosaur for a few years now off an aquaculture system at work, but never actually got it functional again and put on a tank. Looks like it's a ~$900 sterilizer new.

I would estimate around $130 for the above items. Would also likely need a dedicated pump for it and some plumbing pieces as well.

I’d say go for it. I’m running a UV on the exact same aquarium, but it’s plumbed off a manifold which I may or may not change. Wish I knew what I was running it at, but it keeps the water crystal clear.

Happy Monday with some more updates.

All my 80/20 bits arrived last week for the light mount. I yanked the AP700 off the Red Sea tank and got it and the new AP9X mounted. Overall, the two different lights look a little wonky, but color and intensity is the same which is all I care about. Mounted about 3 inches higher than what I care for, but I wasn't about to cut down that aluminum rail.

Salinity tested to 1.026ppt and everything looks stable. Next step will be transferring over all the Apex stuff, which I'm really dreading.
