Don't let your skimmer overflow or really bad stuff happens.
Zoas open like never before

My fox coral got all swollen.
PXL_20241219_025433082~2.jpg

My rock flower started stretching out like never before.
PXL_20241219_025152233.jpg

Then started spawning

The spawn intensified after light out so I had to grab a flashlight

I had someone once tell me not running a skimmer was like making my fish live in toilet water. Some people are a bit narrow minded. I think I'm going back to letting them swim in the toilet. The responce I got when the skimmer filled the tank with crap was nothing but positive. I'm going to leave the skimmer off line for now.

Oh and I finally found something my CBBs will eat besides frozen food, tang poop :rolling-on-the-floor-laughing: . I saw them chowing down on it yesterday but didn't get pics.

More ramblings
I wonder if the tank benifits having the glass scraped every few days instead of daily?
This is after scraping half of the glass after a few days accumulation

I need to get a better video, I have a hunch there may be little critters getting scraped off and not just algae. Maybe I should leave the side / end close to the wall alone and see what grows :thinking-face:

Found this awesome chunk of gsp. It has roots and sponges. Really cool stuff. It's about 6" end-to-end

It was between a rock and the overflow with a start growing on the overflow. This is tuff stuff. I've revived some after months in cold water with no light or flow.

PXL_20241220_021322196~2.jpg

I figured I would put it in the 170 and see if gsp can defeat gha. I've been adding a piece of gsp here and there and its doing well
PXL_20241220_005004724.jpg

I placed the rooty piece here. Should be similar conditions to where it was so hopefully it starts growing on the back.

Leathers are looking happy. Probably all that poison that spilled out of the skimmer.
PXL_20241221_012445072.jpg

The piece of leather I cut off the one lower right above is doing well.

EDIT : I'll clean this up tomorrow :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Cleaned up. I was afraid if tried last night I would accidentally delete the whole post. PXL_20240229_234402271~2.jpg PXL_20241221_031134067~2.jpg PXL_20241221_031134067~2.jpg

EDIT : well I guess it isn't cleaned up. I delete the duplicate photos and they are still here. Screw it I don't have the patience for this stuff :zany-face:

I feed a lot and my N&P are already off the charts! Nitrate is actually 150+ and Phosphate is 1.5+. My skimmer is more for a little pH boost but since I have zero SPS, maybe don’t need it? The tank is on autopilot though — no WCs, no dosing, nada. Just fish power! lol

My coral seem to love high nutes, trates avg 80,Po4 1.-1.5 ,no water changes much less even filter socks/reactors not cleaned /changed over last yr and a half,SPS grow albeit slower than i'd like ,oversized skimmer running 24/7
just sayin'... :winking-face: :)

I have also "let" my ni and po go wild. I have socks, skimmer running, an ATS, and tons of chaeto. Don't know what else I can do to knock it down, so I'm just gonna let it do it's thing. Everything seems very happy.

Not me... I'm having to dose Nitrates and Phosphates.
I have to dose N and P in my acro tank occasionally. I dose AFR and run a reefmat. No skimmer with just 2g water changes every two weeks or so to vaccum the detritus that gathers in one corner. I feed heavy but I think the reefmat pulls a lot out and I've read AFR may be a bit of carbon dosing. Sticks are finally growing decent so I'm just gong to keep doing what I'm doing.

I do dose a little bacto balance in the 330.7 and a small amount of two part to keep alk around 8. I like to keep N 20ish and P 0.5 >. I don't fret but I don't have the confidence yet to just let go, maybe some day.
I manually dose the big tank every morning while my Gal is watching. The last thing I want is all the tanks not needing daily care. If that happens my Gal will want to go on vacation or something and I'm not into that. Vaca was fun when the kids were younger and I've ridden thousands of miles when I was riding but now I just want to hang out at home with the pups and relax. Not having tanks on auto pilot allow me to do that without being a jerk and just refusing to go any where lol

Similar. I have a few fatty McFatFat wrasses so I feed 8 or 9 times a day, no skimmer, rare water changes, and only change the PolyFil in the sock cups when the water backs up over the weirs.

I usually do about a 5 gallon change to suck detritus from the sump every 2 months or there abouts. I have clowns and Nems in the sump so it can build up a little.

Need another entry update.

Tested N and P today and its actually pretty good considering the skimmer overflowed a few days ago.
NO3 8.3
PO4 0.25

It's been two weeks since the last test and changes are minimal so I'm thinking about starting once a month testing on this tank unless I see something that looks off.

Guess who's hungry?

Merry Christmas All. Going to be uneventful here. Cooking a turkey breast and making plates for the old folks (parents) and calling it a day.
My Gal is always complaining we never play cards or board games etc like we used to. So I buy scrabble and she finds the game thinking it needs wrapped as a gift for our grandson who can't even spell yet :thinking-face: I said that's your gift, I thought we could play tonight. She says "I would rather watch a Christmas movie". What's a guy to do?

Niger is in the DT in a box and doing well after looking good and eating for a month.
I forgot how cool triggers are. I'm gonna keep feeding this guy in the box for a while so he gets used to the activity before I release him.

Transfer container not QT ;)

I hope these two keep getting along. We had a mingii with this naso for a few years in the 180g and they got on fine. We lost the mingii along with quite a few others to velvet a few years back. The current naso and purple are survivors from that. The first mingii was the only fish my Gal ever acted like she really wanted so I thought maybe she would like another and she does :face-with-hand-over-mouth:

Mingis hold a very special place in my heart. I got mine on a trade for coral and it was maybe 3 inches. Eventually I realized I needed to rehome him due to size. He now lives his best life over in @F i s h y 's tank.
