I say it every time this topic comes up: Toadstools!

They are hardy, beautiful corals that can also double as a home for clownfish if you don't want to deal with a traveling anemone.

Underrated? Who knows..But I started 6 yrs ago with a hydrometer.... omg I didn't know any better. Lol. Then immediately got a refractometer. Then bought a used Milwaukee salinity testor. Then i bought a new Hanna Salinity Checker.. ---> change the battery, soak in the calibration solution as directed. I've had it for 5 years. I love it..... and i would never use anything but.
It's the Perfect size...... So.... underrated? I dunno. But i think so. Its never let me down. Lol.

Another.... underrated....? Gas money and back pain.. lol.
Some people still goto their LFS and buy salt water.
Just make your own. It's super easy. Don't be scared. Save $$$$. So yes, making your own saltwater is in fact underrated because....----> no driving..save on (gas) and no lugging water back and forth. Save ur back!

One more.... fresh clams!!! I dont buy 4 At a time to feed my anemonees.....
I just buy a whole big bag!! Put them in the freezer my dudes! Defrost later... Save $$$$.
I know these seem so obvious, but.... hey, ....oooooh another....

underrated..... buy a huge bag of filter floss at a time.... not 1 small pad ... save tons $ as well.

Underrated...#1....---> having less stress.!!! Haha.
Don't stress yourself chasing numbers... in my opinion....in most tanks they are way points... guidelines... don't keep changing stuff and adding all kinds of chemicals. Let the tank be...
I test salinity and let the tank be. Some People disagree.... but it works for me!

Cheers!
And......GO BIlls!!!!

These of course have all been mentioned before .... but it's good to remind newbies....

adding copepods to a tank is super underrated! nobody really adds them unless they have dragonets but they really help your tank take off!

also, scavenging tide pools for clean up crew, macroalgae, and live food (snails, hermit crabs, oysters, mussels, etc) for fish like puffers to eat. helps save money and it’s a fun thing to do IMO
