Im shopping for a lens and it makes me NERVOUS. I really want to make the right decision. I've used a friends Nikon camera before and could not focus any corals for the life of me. So I just want to make a good purchase! I would be majority filming videos but definitely plan on taking close up pics of corals as well. Does anyone have any lens they could recommend me?

There are a lot of great phtogs here on R2R, and I am not one of them lol! But if you like photography, did you know there's a whole section here on R2R for photography and videography?

Good luck!

I never used a dslr for video . For close up I loved my Tamron 90mm f2.8. I used it on my Minolta bodies and later on my Sony after they took over Minolta. I enjoyed my sigma 180mm macro also but it's big and would probably be overkill for corals. One thing I found when shooting macro was AF could often be hit or miss. I mostly used MF.

Mainly for corals but maybe pictures and vlogging on vacation every blue moon? Lol
I am by no means a professional in this. I originally had a Panasonic GH5 for a few years before I sold it to my sister. I haven't been into photography since 2019.

With that being said, I am diving back in for reef pictures myself. Keeping my budget low. I am eying a Nikon D3400. Used its under $200. Paired with some quality lens. You can get some good looking pictures.
