Hi all,

I woke up this morning and started doing my typical dosing rounds and one of my tanks (40 gallon breeder nem tank) was leaking. Sprung into action and went to get another 40 gallon.

I have a 75 gallon fresh water tank that I’ve been slowly decommissioning but there are still a dozen fish that I haven’t managed to give away so decided that I would transfer these fish to the new 40 gallon and transfer the contents of the nem tank to the 75 gallon tank.

Transferred all the fish, corals and nems to two 20 gallon totes and a 5 gallon bucket along with all the snails and crabs. The Pithos were not happy as I was digging through the sand for them. Thankfully my baby melanurus decided to cooperate and did not make me go digging.

I have cleaned out heaters and just plan to reuse those in the appropriately sized tank. Ordered bigger wave makers for appropriate flow in the 75. I have a hybrid T5 unit that I haven’t been using and will pair that with my hydra 64 HD that was on the 40. Have some dry rock that was sitting around that I’ll rinse and it can go in at the same time as all of the live rock that was already in the 40. All of the media in the filter will go into a new filter. Will be dosing with stability over the next several days.

What else should I be thinking about?

Good call out; I have some new sand that’s been in bags for a couple of months leftover from a previous project. Does anyone like to add just a handful of old sand to new tanks?
