What do I need to do to get coralline algae to grow like this?

Wow. You guys make it sound like it's difficult to grow coralline. I've heard other hobbyists say they can't get it to take off too. I'm not sure why but I can't seem to slow down coralline growth. I started my 125 gallon in late June with dry rock and seeded it with 3 large chunks of live rock and my rockwork is already completely encrusted. Mine isn't pink though. It's a very deep purple. Anyone know what kind it is?

Started up in... May, tank cracked, got replacement up and running by June. Rock stayed wet the whole time tho. I started with caribsea dry branch rock. Used a few pieces of rock from an old build to boost the cycle along. Already have red coraline almost taking over several branches.

I do have a tiny bit of pink and purple on frags, but the red grows like wildfire.

Coralline algae is related to calcium levels in your tank. The more calcium, the better the growth. If this is correct, then adding frags to the tank would slow Coralline algae as the frags are consuming the calcium.

I think that the green stuff growing is coralline algae that looks like this. Has someone else has green coralline algae growth that looks like this in there reef tank?

They started turning green 2 or 3 weeks back. The only spots that are turning green are those that get direct light.

I've had that before. It should go away in its own time

Awesome! I have some starting to grow on my circulation pump now.

I also am not sure if this is coralline algae, but it looks cool.

I can't stand any growth on the back wall of a tank (or on equipment) so I'm happy to not have it.

I started my 135 gal tank with about 130 lbs. dry base rock and 100 lbs. Fiji pink sand. After my tank cycled and started growing some ugly green/orange colored coralline, I added some of this. It’s been about 2 weeks and I’m already starting to see patches of really pretty pink/purple take hold on the rock.

That’s the first thing that grew in mine too, except mine wasn’t as bright as yours. Then some ugly orange started growing with it,

There is actually quite a bit more to it.
Color of light. Intensity. Type of corraline. Nutrients, stability etc.
best coralline growth I ever had was a deep purple under warmer Lower par lights and higher nutrients using NSW and no dosing.

And yes. All the organisms compete for resources.
But in the long run, for most it’s not and issue or a simple fix like adding auto dosing.

This is week 2 after adding Two bottles of purple helix and one of pink fusion. They recommend 1 bottle per 50 gallons, but I don’t see why you couldn’t get results with less.

Can yall post pictures of your reef tanks with coralline algae growing in it, I would like to see different colors if possible? I googled it and it says it can grow in the colors: pink, red, purple, yellow, blue, white, grey, and green.

The white part of mine is turning red. Don't have the orange in this tank, but my last one would have an orange growth edge on red coraline.

Doesn't the coraline impact the rocks biological filtration capacity reducing its effectiveness?
