I'm sitting this month out again. The tank transfer upgrade is underway and coming along, though! Amazing that in the 40 my tank looked like full colonies with barely any space left and now everything looks like frags again!
I love the little cave you made on the right side really cool!

Sorry for the simplistic question - but is a 'tank thread' a specific format or within a specific area of the forums? I would love to create a tank thread, but I'm not sure I would know the 'right' way to do it. If anyone wants to point me to some very obvious place where this is explained, I appreciate it.

hi!
This is the spot for your build/tank thread.
if you have a tank larger then 180 gallons, start here and go into the appropriate forum to create your thread:

okay, I have a 300 gallon and a 40 gallon cube quarantine tank; I'm guessing not many people will care about my 75 freshwater. So, if I'm tracking correctly, I'll head over to the second link. Thank you for simplifying this for an old man!

Placeholder: I nominate @OrchidMiss for Mariner of The Month. As our resident R2R mermaid (mermaid badge pending approval by Ministry of Badges), insert random name patients call her has intimate knowledge of the life aquatic. When she isn't busy giving @tbrown competition on his winning streak, you can often find her on the SBB and other live sale threads. In fact, she might be better described as the resident R2R enabler mermaid, spreading enthusiasm a d encouragement for our reefing addictions. Her tanks each have unique and memorable characters that have inspired many an R2R reefer: Jello the photogenic trigger, all the fish in the bad guys tank, even a tank with a murderbug mantis who turned out to be less murderous than its tankmate dottyback :)loudly-crying-face:), and who could forget Felicia the clown. Let's not forget that she started the Agenda thread that inspired many of us, myself included, to record and track our goals! @OrchidMiss for R2R Mariner of the Month!
Here here! I second

I don't qualify but I have to answer the question, right???

Over the past few years that I've been reef keeping i think the biggest thing I've discovered about myself is that I can't fit myself into a box - that happens after I'm dead! When it comes to how "everyone" does things, that's not enough for me. I like to test things, push the limits, and try things out for myself. I've had success with many things that go against the normal process of running reef tanks. I run higher nutrients, I've used tap water for years, I have a potentially over stocked tank, and, until recently, I used little to no automation on my tanks. Testing for me is something that happens when something seems off or if I feel like checking where my tank is at.

I don't fit the mold and I don't try to anymore. Reef keeping for me is a joy and I try to keep it hassle free as much as I can.
Good afternoon - May I see a picture of your tank?

sorry to ask I'm still learning to navigate everything here.
Don't be sorry, I don't mind sharing my tank. I'm glad you asked! Also, you don't learn if you don't ask.

Tank Name: Rices Reef

Build thread: Cade 2100 S2

Hello fellow reefers! My name is Colton Rice and I’m honored to share some of my story and passion with this community. First off I have to give a huge shoutout to my wife who encouraged me to post about our tanks and who has also been the biggest supporter of this hobby since day 1 (love you babe!)! And shout out to our baby girl due in MAY!

I’ll highlight the 4 major things I discovered about myself from this hobby:
  • I love to CREATE!
    • I love the creative aspect of reefing. In some ways I view this hobby like adult legos. I built/engineered each aquascape with specific designs in mind, and every coral has a specific place it can grow and thrive. I love doing little DIY projects and have even used my reefing skills for other projects around the house. I love seeing what color combinations of fish and corals complement each other too
  • I am more RESILIENT than I realize
    • The resilience aspect comes from what this hobby has meant to me during some of the toughest years of my life. Over the last 3 years my wife has struggled with a number of health issues. There have been countless doctors visits and hospital stays, but the one thing that has been CONSISTENT IS THE REEF TANK (that and of course our faith in Jesus!). I know its funny to say that, but every time we come home from the doctor or I wake up early to have coffee I see the tanks humming along. It hasn’t always been easy, both in life and in reefing. Yet, as I research and overcome the challenges with the tanks, I have learned that I can be resourceful and overcome anything. And of course, I have a place of peace in our fish room where I can rest and let the worries of life fade for a brief time.
  • I truly love the FISH and CORAL
    • This is simple but so true! Fish are friggin cool! And coral, don’t even get me started. Each category of coral is special and amazing in its own way. I learned that my love for this hobby extends to anywhere we travel near the ocean. I love snorkeling and scuba diving and seeing these creatures thriving in the wild! Having a slice of the reef at home is truly a blessing.
  • This hobby can bring family together
    • Finally, I discovered how this hobby can bring people together, especially my family! My mother-in-law, niece, and nephew in particular love coming over to our house to look at the tanks. I see their eyes light up every time they get to see the tanks or when we get a new fish. We have also started having family outings where we go to the zoo or local aquariums together! ***And the biggest announcement is that we have a baby girl on the way who will get to be a part of the hobby and community as well!

I’m just now noticing I barely have any photos of myself lol. If I had to choose a name for my reef I’d probably call it “A Long Time Coming”. I’ve wanted to have a reef aquarium since I was 12 years old. Almost 14 years later, I made the dream come true. I couldn’t be happier with the success I’ve had over these last two years and never thought my tank would ever look the way it does today. It’s going to be a sad day when I have to shut down the tank as I move again soon, sometime this coming fall. So if you want super neat corals, fish, or inverts… hit me up!

I sorta always thought I was an impatient person. Can’t stand being behind slow drivers, walkers, you get the point. Originally, I thought the biggest challenge for me was going to be patience and let things find their groove. I’m fortunate I was wrong! I discovered It’s been super easy to be patient with reefing, turns out all I need to do is nothing and enjoy the tank!

Reefing has taught me the value of patience and appreciating the present moment, rather than chasing instant gratification. By embracing this mindset in other areas of my life, I’ve found a deeper sense of peace within myself.

Since @GAreef wants more participants I'll enter again although I think some of these tanks have me beat at the starting gate.

Just for the record this is partially taken from my February entry.

My daughter jokingly suggested "Frank" as a name for the tank, and it stuck. Partly because we play Helldivers and have the "Make Frank Kill a Tank" achievement.
My second oldest son also said, "The tank's name was Frank" which is a paraphrase of a line from the "song" "Classified" by C.W. McCall (which probably solidified it's use in this case).
The last photo is my nephew. He took the family photos. His dad, my brother Ryan, is the reason we got into aquariums.
Since starting in the reefing I have discovered that managing a reef tank is soothing to my psyche. I've discovered I'm not answerable to anyone else for the type of tank I keep, style, appearance, approach are my own. I've discovered that there is something cathartic about taking care of the series of minor chores each day/week, knowing that I am caring for the health and vitality of my livestock. I've discovered that my entire family will share my enthusiasm for a project if I set the example. I've discovered that aquariums can also cause panic and frustration. I've discovered they can make your daughter cry (when her betta fish died). I've discovered that I really want a reef tank in my life.
