I received this pump as a back-up yesterday and notice the front part (inlet) sits at an angle, on one side only, instead of being straight.

I dismantled it and there is no way to fix this, as it was manufactured this way and this part doesn’t come off. It’s from Amazon so I can return it easily (I never used it).

What do you think, is it purely cosmetic or will it affect the flow and/or cause premature wear down ?

Correct me if I'm wrong. But the web image shows it angled. its a corkscrew. Drop a level on the top to confirm it the inlet is angled.
I don’t see it angled on the image. The thing is it’s perfectly straight on one side but angled on the other, which makes the protective grate that goes on it crooked.

I’ll drop a level when I have a chance but the top I know is straight.

Ah. I may be misunderstanding then regarding the protective grate.

It is a flaw. It will not hurt anything nothing rides in that area like an impeller and if you are not hard plumbing it to something not an issue. Personally I would probably return it because it isnt correct and I spent money not looking for someones mistake in manufacturing even if it wont effect the use. If they would like to give me a discount to buy their factory blemished we can discuss.

hmmm never noticed I have a few jebaos kicking around Ill have to take a look.

I have 3 in use and didn't notice but probably because I didn't look lol. I could see it being annoying as an external pump because the plumbing would be crooked but as an internal with just the strainer it isn't an issue.

Its strange it almost looks like the chamber that the threaded portion comes out of is where the "issue" is, So I dont know even if you plumbed it external if it would be crooked.

I would say there's some optical illusion taking place. With the required pitch of the threads and the right angles of the volute make it appear to be slanted.

Although it doesn't help that the top of the inlet opening isn't collinear to the flat surface of the volute. That probably exacerbating the optical illusion.

Seeing the photo that @exnisstech provided does show that the threads are not aligned with the inlet opening. In my mind, this could be explain with the cad design process and how the threads were created in the software. I would imagine that the helix in which the thread profile followed was part of a different thread pitch that was aligned with the inlet and when they made the decision to change the thread pitch, they only changed certain parameters without ensuring the helix was still aligned with the inlet. Although this is just speculation, I don't see how this would effect operation and sealing (if externally used). It's probably something initially overlooked and never corrected because even though it's incorrect, it still functions.

The strainer is crooked so I assumed plumbing would be also but now that you mention it I think it is the chamber not threaded part thats off.
